@Cjm884 @AMLTDTTM I'm on your side in this debate (the Mets have a way better lineup). But you really should take that "anyone who knows baseball would agree with me" thing and put it in a drawer and leave it there. People fall back on that in lieu of making an argument and it's really lame.

@Cjm884 It wasn't good after the top heavy part last year either. This year it's worse, and they don't have nearly as good pitching to keep them in games.

@dodgerblueguy @NickIsAMetsFan I never felt confident the Mets were going to win, but they made it more competitive than we had any right to expect on paper and there were some really fun moments.

Just a friendly reminder to everybody that we had the Dodgers on the ropes and would've swept their asses 9/10 times

@WilkGhost @F_Piombo89 Their projections always converge on the center. Rarely do you get a team with lots of wins or lots of losses for whatever reason.

@F_Piombo89 @uuujason I mean I could see them being in the 70s if lots of things conspire to go wrong. I think 70 would be pretty crazy as a baseline guess though. 90 seems a tad high but 90 is way more realistically attainable than 70.

@RussyBear_0719 They're not "headlining" because they're good at pitching in 2026. They combined for ~4.25 ERA last year. They're "headlining" because they're smart pitchers who know the zone inside and out (still true despite decline), and are likely to get lots of ABS challenges correct.

@Dr_Adolph_Soto @metsbatflip1 COUNTERPOINT: why should the season results of 2002 Mets, entirely composed of retired players now mostly in their 50s, have any bearing on anybody's evaluation of the 2026 Mets?

@metsbatflip1 I hope you’re right, but it’s been 40 years since we’ve hit pay dirt, why should this year be any different?

I’ve never been this excited for a Mets season in a very long time. Something special is going to happen this year, I can just feel it. This could be the year, fellas.

@Mike_Peters_LGM @MWCarse It's stupid in both directions. Mets-related Twitter right now is just 50% morons going "Pete Alonso sucks! Look at this spring training strikeout!" and 50% other morons going "Jorge Polanco sucks! Look at him bobble this ground ball and make a bad throw!" Equally idiotic

@darthpenquin @jramseymmo You are making my point for me. The Mets gave $30M to Familia (good solid B-level closer) in 2018. Compared to that, $69m in 2026 dollars for the best closer in MLB is a steal, and the Mets wouldn't even do that, without stuffing half of it into deferred money pissing Diaz off.

@darthpenquin @jramseymmo It was a good trade at the time and it's still a good trade now even though Cohen let the guy walk by farting around over deferred money. Even if they didn't sign him in 2022 it was a great trade. 5 years of elite closer value for a bum prospect and league minimum/arbitration

@darthpenquin @jramseymmo His 2022 contract was less than the 3 above I mentioned. I'm not saying the new owner is cheap, I am saying you are living in a WFAN fever dream where the Mets never gave out huge contracts until 2021, and your psychosis is making you invent false hypotheticals about Edwin Diaz

@htmlinacell @jramseymmo His first contract with the Mets was over 100M. There’s been hundreds of players in the period of time you displayed and only 3 got contacts that high. Are you saying the new owner is cheap?

@darthpenquin @jramseymmo 1) I just showed you three contracts of well over $100m handed out by the team you said would never hand out $100m 2) He got way less than that from the Dodgers ($69m) 3) The new owner refused to pay 2 of these same guys on their next contracts so what are you even talking about

@70sBaseball I wanted to sign Alonso too, but this is just as dumb as tweeting a "haha" every time Pete Alonso strikes out or hits into a DP. This debate isn't gonna be resolved until like 2029. Do we really need a constant real-time ticker pointing out every time these guys shart their BVDs

@DKmets @jramseymmo To the second point, the Mets may not have known Kelenic would be one of the worst top-10 draft picks in 40 years. however given their stellar track record with scouting, development and analytics from '11-'18-ish, it's a no-brainer they detected some kind of busto factor present

@DKmets @jramseymmo Prospects don't pan out sometimes, but the team's job is to internally identify the ones that are more likely to bust, and if possible, make moves to get as much in return as possible in trade so they're not left holding the bag. And they hit a 500-foot home run in this instance

@darthpenquin @jramseymmo You were the one who posited a hypothetical scenario that would have definitely happened if the Mets had different owners in 2022, so I asked you when they ever did this under the previous owners. If you can't come up with one example, it's not a great hypothetical.

@kainhighwind33 @Robderbs @notgaetti Did you consider that possibly your initial evaluation of the trade was awful, and not the trade itself Usually when people's opinions get smacked in the face this hard by reality, they will admit they were wrong at some point in the next... I remember when the Mets were getting eviscerated for letting Kelenic go to Seattle in the Cano/Diaz trade back in 2018. Since making his MLB debut in 2021, he’s a career 0.2 WAR player with a .211/.282/.376 slash line across 407 games. He turns 27 in July; officially a bust?
SleeperWhiteSox@SleeperWhiteSox

Jarred Kelenic will not make the 26-man roster to begin the 2026 season Spring Training stats (14 games): .179 AVG 2 HRs 5 RBIs 12 Ks / 5 BBs 3 XBHs
