@angeitamoza @biologistimo In the UK. I was asked if I wanted sedation but I chose not to as it would make me feel nauseous. They said they’d offer gas and air but it wasn’t too bad so I didn’t need it. I had a uterine biopsy recently and offered nothing and that was far worse & extremely painful.

In case you wondered what it’s like to be a woman who needs reproductive medical care: The hospital just called to ask why I wanted sedation for my surgical procedure tomorrow. Because it’s usually done without.

@drlouisenewson I had been asking for HRT for a few years before I was prescribed it. The GP said I was the “wrong side of 45” to be allowed it and then told me all the risks as a way to try and put me off.

Today marks eight years since the first ever set of NICE menopause guidelines were introduced. They were developed for healthcare professionals, and for women themselves, and I remember being very excited about them when I first read them eight years ago.   They’re actually very simple and easy to understand and have real potential to improve women’s health. I strongly believe all women should be aware of what the guidelines cover so they are informed and can advocate for themselves when it comes to conversations about treatment with their clinician.   Currently in the UK, only 14% of menopausal women are on HRT and I believe this number would be higher if more people were aware of and referenced the NICE menopause guidelines more.
