@natecooley @PaulSkallas Infinitely better to work in though because it has functioning heating and air conditioning, doesn’t leak (as bad), and doesn’t have phone cables drilled through random walls and doors.

@PaulSkallas Pssst! Who wants Beaux Arts when we have since been blessed with this monument of drab steel and glass with zero ornamentation as its replacement.

@susanamendoza10 The pension fund had a double digit rate of return this year and the debt still grew by $500m, where’s the money going to come from? We need to write down the $36B pension debt or the city will go bankrupt, there cannot be any half steps here.

A Blizzard of Incompetence that is making living in Chicago less affordable. Shortchanging Chicago’s pension systems is a recipe for further downgrades. That means Chicagoans pay higher interest to cover more bad decisions. If Mayor Johnson fails to make the full supplemental pension payment, he risks leading Chicago towards additional downgrades to the city's credit rating. 📉 Mayor Johnson isn't just kicking the can to the next administration with this skipped payment. He's essentially kicking city workers who rely on their pensions and kicking the taxpayers left footing the bill for skyrocketing borrowing costs.  His refusal to get our fiscal house in order, signals a complete lack of serious, long-term leadership. The hard but honest truth is that at our current levels of underfunding, if the stock market catches a cold, Chicago’s underfunded pensions will leave us facing chronic pneumonia. We simply cannot protect the city's financial health by taking a holiday from our core fiscal obligations. The bills must be paid. And Chicago must get serious about electing a Mayor who treats their money with more respect.
Michael McDevitt@MikeMcDTweets

The Johnson administration is no longer committing to making the second half of a roughly $260M supplemental pension payment, alders told at a mid-year budget hearing this morning. 1/

@MarysRoommate @MattZeitlin Blue governor of a state that voted for Trump twice, hasn’t been super successful as governor because of R opposition, the assassination plot, her husband’s practice closing, general burnout from running a rust belt state.

@clarksonlawson_ Y’all are so annoyingly dishonest…this is why we can’t have productive conversations…becuase if you truly believe that the hierarchy is built from those at the bottom propping those at the top up you’re delusional…

Muscle gays are a minority within the gay community, yet they sit at the top of its social hierarchy. Y’all say muscle gays hold all this “social power,” but you’re the ones giving it to them. A minority can only hold social power if the majority grants it. Your envy, insecurity, and lust for them is the pedestal their status is built on. And the discourse surrounding photos of them only proves they’re still the main characters living rent-free in your heads. The hyper-focus on their photos only contributes to the very status you complain about them having. Pretty privilege is a normal part of human behavior. Just accept it or recognize that you and this discourse contribute to it. I’d also like to add, most of this discourse is rooted in yall deep down wanting sexual access to them but not getting it. You’re all men, let’s be honest about what truly motivates most of you.

@LynnBecker @FearTheTyr There are certainly some places where bus stop elimination can be justified, but Clark & Kinzie is certainly not one of them.

No. Just, no. Outdoor dining is a positive amenity, but the CTA SHOULD NOT be eliminating bus stops to accommodate it The Clark & Kinzie stop has been removed to make room for The Smith's tables. There is now NO stop between Grand and Randolph- SEVEN blocks in dense River North

@lilbabygandhi The allegations didn't happen until now, you are saying fuck you to the entire Maine democratic primary voters because they agreed with me. This new allegation changes things for me, unlike the revenge porn allegations made against your friend Destiny, who you continue to support

@purplewaves7 The IRA passed, the issue was solved in Democrat’s eyes, why would they keep talking about it? There was a problem and it was tackled. Should they have championed their accomplishments more? Duh, but voters didn’t really seem to care so why would they.

All those American AC yellers, mocking Europe, have no clue about how they will be affected by this heatwave and the next that will follow soon. Crops burn in this heat, livestock dies. The US imports much European food. Food shortages will follow. Good luck with your AC.

@number_pizza111 @ubisuntamerica That “sliver” of easily transit accessible Chicago is still like a million people, which is only small in comparison to New York (which also has a majority of its metro population living in places where being car free is hard)

@StatisticUrban ... And yet it hasn't happened. What is unfortunate about your worldview is it has zero answers as to why that is. No theory of power, which makes it quite useless when trying to actually get things done.

@AliceFromQueens Natalie Wynn makes a similar argument in one of her videos: TWAW naturally invites the question “what is a woman” and “are trans women actually women” which is not really a legislatable question nor one that most Americans would agree with trans people on

This is brilliant polemic. Typical of Cassie to drop it ten-replies-deep in a midnight conversation with a small account. 200 views for a piece of writing better than every op-ed on the subject.

This is exactly right, and you can't make it go away by just screeching "TRAINS ARE SAFER THAN CARS!!!" over and over. People fear what they fear, and either you work with that, or you live in car-land for the rest of your life.
big_pedestrian@big_pedestrian

The double standard for transit vs driving is WILD: - Road rage, shootings, 40K deaths, 3.5M injuries: normal - Weird, smelly guy on train: scary I agree that transit (libraries and parks) should NOt be housing. But I wish people understood the tradeoffs of car dependence.
