Indian mainstream media reporting crime against women: Acid poured on wife over doubts of adultery. Woman raped after late night party with alcohol. Wife beheaded over constant nagging. Wife killed over arguments on financial issue. Woman stabbed to death by a man she insulted.

@idekwhybutwell They'll say anything to get their daughters married and then ask them to 'adjust'. The only way out of this hellscape is to be financially independent, leave at the first sign of abuse, no matter how small and learn to be ok with disappointing your birth family.

if you’re an unmarried girl whose parents are insisting you to settle down, first sit with them and have the difficult conversation that if things go wrong or you’re in distress will they accept you back home in the first go itself instead of being told “adjust karna hota hai”

INDIAN MEN ARE GOLD DIGGERS, GREEDY BEGGARS FOR DOWRY AND COLD BLOODED MURDERERS. Stop getting your girls married into homes where they demand dowry. Put all this money in investments for her, let her live her life.A divorced or a single daughter is better than a dead daughter.

Gave a Scorpio, ₹1 Crore in Gold... They Still Killed Her: Greater Noida Dowry Murder Deepika Nagar, married 14 months ago, was allegedly killed by her in-laws over unmet dowry demands. Despite receiving ₹1 crore in gifts including gold and a Scorpio, they continued demanding a Fortuner SUV and ₹50 lakh more. > Husband Ritik (tried suicide by jumping from top of house) and father-in-law Manoj arrested.

Literally do not see the point of weddings when women have to be responsible for their own happiness, safety, social security, financial independence, physical and mental health while dealing with family responsibilities. Why girl parents are obsessed with weddings is beyond me.

Saw a patient today with a hemoglobin of 1.9 g/dL. For context, a level that low is almost incompatible with normal consciousness, but she walked right into the clinic on her own feet. For three long years, she lived with crushing weakness and since last 6 months breathlessness from just walking across a room. Why didn’t she get help sooner? At first, it was because the kids had crucial school exams and later her husband was reluctant to deal with the hassle of a hospital admission. Her health was treated as a background inconvenience. When we dug deeper, it got worse. A year ago, her Hb was 6.4 g/dL. A doctor explicitly told them she needed immediate admission. The family refused, walked out with a basic strip of iron tablets, she took them for two weeks, forgot about them, and nobody in the house ever bothered to check on her or remind her. She didn't even come to the hospital today because of the air hunger. She came because her periods had completely stopped for months. Her body was so profoundly starved of iron and oxygen that it literally shut down her reproductive axis just to divert what little blood she had left to her heart and brain. It’s completely heartbreaking. A woman will literally bleed her body dry, gasp for air for years and keep working silently, only to be brought to a doctor when her normal functioning stops. Please check on the women in your homes. Stop letting them normalize chronic exhaustion.

Dear women, If you can afford a maid please do, if you can get a cook, please get one. Always look for ways to make your life easier. There’s no award for the mom who works the hardest but lost herself in the process. Preserve yourself. Normalize not doing everything yourself.

@historywali Summer in 90's Calcutta was rice with toker daal (sour daal) or biulir daal (white urad daal) and aloo posto with cold mango jhol chutney. Oh how I'd love to feed someone this in summer!

May ke mahine mein winter ki sabziyan - gajar & matar, more matar + bajra, AND PANJIRI! Broccoli hehe what? Sure-shot menu for an upset tummy. My (very-Punjabi) nani would have slapped this menu, twice. Here’s what she’d serve if she were doing a vegetarian summer menu (I mean ghar par guest aate the tab non-veg banta tha, something special - it was a reason/excuse to make mutton-chicken/fish but khair woh chodo, there’s enough to lament if you just think about the (lack of) seasonality in this menu.) Coming back to what Nani would serve: Aam-ka-Panna, Lauki Kofta, Bharwan-Tinday, Kathal-ke-kabab with Kairi + Pundhina chutney, Bhindi-ka-Raita/Kheere-ka-Raita, Sirka-Gud waale Baingan, Kadhi (and plain chawal), Wadi-waale Chawal, Ajwain-Mirch Paratha, Pudhina Paratha, Gudamba, and for dessert thandi thandi Kulfi or Mango Kulfi or Mango ice-cream, or Mango-cream (fresh malai). I’d love to know your summer menus too. That fresh-fruit better have mango in it. Okay now about the seasonal eating - if the ‘first-kitchen’ itself is forgetting the very ethos of how we eat seasonal, and celebrate farm-fresh produce (as opposed to cold-storage produce), then we are trundling down a very sorry path: all the food & nutrition panels being organised by food & agri policy research institutes - I was part of one a couple of months ago and seasonal eating was so big on the agenda, what’s the point when this is the message going out from kitchens that have a voice?

@livetime_fe It is a really good gesture, no doubt. But, across the world, a bouquet is a gesture to women, rather than to a guy. Hence.

Several years ago a guy I knew was gonna be in a play, and when I went to watch him I brought him a bouquet of flowers to congratulate him. He got weirded out, all his friends made fun of him, and assumed I had a crush on him. Later I saw the bouquet lying behind a building, thrown away. The patriarchy decided that men shouldn't receive flowers, the patriarchy made sure his friends made fun of him and today the same patriarchy is crying that men don't get flowers.

I don’t think people are understanding this headline - this is genuinely one of the coolest things I’ve seen a movie do. They hired an ACTUAL artist to PAINT a meme in the style of the ai ones to poke fun at them. Would’ve been so easy to ai generate something for the movie but they held themselves to a higher standard which I really really respect.
Variety@Variety

“The Devil Wears Prada 2” hired a human artist, Alexis Franklin, to make an AI-generated meme featured in the film: "Absolutely no disrespect to Queen Meryl, but this is something I would’ve painted in my free time, so when they asked me to do this, it was nothing but fun.” variety.com/2026/film/news…

@dyingfordeath @thefirestonian Idk if you’re from the desi subcontinent and if you’ve ever met brown parents. For them getting their daughters married off is the biggest and only priority. They can go to any extent to coerce their girls to get married even if their own married life has been hellish.

@thefirestonian so many rules and sacrifices to not get hurt, why can't they just tell their parents that they don't want to marry because with this attitude they'll make other's life hell too, even if they get a good family

When I had my last baby a few years ago a friend dropped off a delicious homemade dinner for us (salad AND dessert included). When she dropped by she did so with HER very own slightly older newborn in tow. Oh yeah, she was also a partner at a prestigious BIG LAW law firm in DC.

A family from church has a boy in the hospital, my wife made them dinner to ease their suffering. I like being married to a woman who does stuff like this instead of typing numbers into a spreadsheet at a job she hates. Happy to work a little harder to make it happen.

@AnshulGarg1986 @lightroastguy It's a game that requires people to be physically fit & mentally disciplined. I don't see how it's different from anything other training routine. Plus it's not that easy to create FOMO in a famously price-sensitive, increasingly aware and discerning market like ours.

@iamdoomscroller @lightroastguy Don't call it fitness to create FOMO. Don't create hype of it. It is a game and take it as a game. Most people go there because of FOMO.

People hating on HYROX and marathons are often the same ones who act like armchair activists but have never exercised. They don’t realize how powerful body movement is for physical and mental health. Here is a photo from the last half marathon, after years of consuming anti depressants I managed to find peace with running and strength training.

We’re raised to believe the man “carries the bloodline” because of his last name. But biologically, that’s not how it works. Mitochondrial DNA the part of you that powers every cell is passed only from your mother, unchanged, generation after generation and only a female can pass it forward. So while names shift and change, the only lineage that truly never breaks is a woman.
