How many more top diminutive players like Bernado Silva or Luca Modric would the game be deprived of potentially in the future❓ Height is only one surface value metric, and actually being slightly smaller assists in playing the style of football that truly great teams and great players play 🙌🔥 When you play a game based on creative Intelligence, Exceptional technique, dynamic interchanging movement, like Rabbits, Squirrels and ‘foxes in both boxes’, running rings around Giraffes, Rhinos and bears…. paints quite a picture right? 🤷‍♂️ I may have a bias, but all size players can play good football, but what profile can play like Messi, Bernado, Modric, Xavi Iniesta, Pedri, Neves, Vitinha et al? 🤔 Its a blessing, not a curse, maximise who and what you are 💪🏼🙌 Listen to 6ft 2 Carrick explain how prime Barca Xavi, Iniesta and Messi were so hard to contain 🤔🔥
MyFootballCoach@MyFootballCoach

Academies asking for parents’ height to help predict the future physical profile of a player… Is this really the direction youth development should be going? Physicality matters, of course. But would players like Vitinha or João Neves have been selected in some systems at younger ages? Or would they have been overlooked because they were “too small” or “couldn’t get around the pitch” early enough?

🚀 ⚽ Excited to share that our paper has been accepted for publication in the Applied Football Science in Coaching and Performance Special Issue of the International Journal of Performance Analysis in Sport. 𝑮𝒂𝒎𝒆 𝑴𝒐𝒅𝒆𝒍𝒔 𝒊𝒏 𝑭𝒐𝒐𝒕𝒃𝒂𝒍𝒍 𝑪𝒐𝒂𝒄𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈: 𝑨𝒏 𝑬𝒄𝒐𝒍𝒐𝒈𝒊𝒄𝒂𝒍 𝑫𝒚𝒏𝒂𝒎𝒊𝒄𝒔 𝑷𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒑𝒆𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒗𝒆 This paper explores Game Models through an ecological dynamics perspective and its implications for football coaching and performance. A huge thank you to my co-authors, mentors, and supervisors Professor Keith Davids, Dr. Joe Stone and Professor Alliance Kubayi for their support and guidance throughout the process. I would also like to acknowledge the reviewers and editorial team. The review process was a really valuable learning experience and strengthened the manuscript considerably, helping refine both its conceptual and practical contribution. Proud to see another piece of work contributing to my wider PhD journey around skill acquisition, feedback, learning design, and football coaching. Looking forward to sharing more once it is officially published. #Football #Coaching #SkillAcquisition #EcologicalDynamics #Research #CoachEducation #GameModels

The FA Cup Final was once an historic cultural event. People still remember Sunderland in 73 or Cov in 87. Today’s game has the feel of a charity match. Two interchangeable lineups of foreign millionaires bankrolled by foreign billionaires. Empty seats. No identity. Yookay slop.

@ianlearnperform 7,000 touches a week is a great benchmark. The gap in North America isn't talent, it's just total time on ball. Most kids here get 2-3 organized sessions and never touch a ball between them. The individual work piece is where the real development happens.
