IRP was in D.C. for the @NRECANews Legislative Conference, meeting with @RepMMM and Senators @ChuckGrassley and @SenJoniErnst. We also connected with staff from Representatives @ZachNunn and @RepAshleyHinson. We discussed FEMA reform, permitting reform and increased RUS funding.

On Wednesday, April 1, Prairie Energy Cooperative met with legislators to discuss important issues like community solar, utility worker protection and load forecasting. We appreciate their dedication to advocating for Iowa’s rural communities.

The Utility Worker Protection Bill passed the Iowa Senate. After the vote, @IowaRECs launched a Call to Action—90 advocates sent 264 emails in 48 hours thanking legislators for their support and showing the power of Iowa’s co-op network.

On Feb. 20, the @EPA repealed a 2024 mercury and air rule impacting power plants, removing what co-ops viewed as a major regulatory threat. The @NRECANews said the rule would have forced costly upgrades or closures of coal units without meaningful public health benefits.
