Today makes it exactly 2 years since I set out to break a chess world record in Times Square New York. Changed my entire world, helped us build an education centre for children and gave me a life of endless imagination. Happy anniversary,I’m grateful.

What does a room full of girls fighting over chess boards sound like? Focus. Quiet determination. Something being built in real time…💜💜💜 I’m in Chicago coaching at Girls Nationals right now and I’m still catching my breath from going over so many chess games… 70+ girls from @icnnyc, schools across Manhattan and Brooklyn competing on the national stage… I remember the first time I walked into a room full of women playing chess. I didn’t want to leave. Like I’d finally found people who just got it. No explanation needed. Every girl in this room is feeling that right now. We need more girls playing chess. Not just learning it , competing in it. Fighting for it. Owning it. More rooms like this. Always.👑💜💜💜

Week 2 Recap: Summer Chess Camp with ICN & The Gift of Chess ♟️ If Week 1 was about momentum, Week 2 was a test of mental resilience. This week hit different. This week reminded me of something every chess player, and every human, eventually must face: Talent is not enough!!. I’ve always believed I had a gift for this game. I still do. But this week, talent alone wasn’t enough to win. I lost a lot of games, and I won’t pretend it didn’t hurt. But after reflecting… I realised: These losses were necessary. I also gained clarity, structure, and a deeper understanding of what true mastery demands. They humbled me. They reminded me that hard work is the great equaliser. That talent gets you started, but discipline, training, and effort are what sustain progress, especially when things get tough. The goal is still clear: USCF Master. But now I know more than ever that I’ll have to earn every step of that title with hard work, not just potential. This week, I doubled down: Studied my losses Identified my weak points Committed to longer hours of practice Embraced every mistake as a lesson Every loss became a lesson. Every position, a mirror showing me where to improve. I’m learning not just how to win, but how to lose with insight and bounce back with purpose. And I’m grateful for that. Losing doesn’t mean I’m failing. It means I’m learning. Like coach @TIGRAN_SPINOZA would say, Openings take you more than halfway to mastery. This week hurt. But I grew. And through every painful loss and insightful lesson, I reminded myself: The goal is not just to become a USCF Master. The goal is to become a better player on and off the chessboard. Thank you once again to @thegiftofchess, @impactcoachingnetwork, and @chessinslums for providing the space to grow, and to @Tunde_OD and all my mentors for encouraging me not to settle for talent alone, but to match it with hard work. And thanks to Coach @TIGRAN_SPINOZA for the wisdom, the training, and the environment that helps me become more than just talented, but to become disciplined. Week 3, I’m getting stronger. 💪 Eyes still on the goal: USCF Master.

Susan Namangale @Susan_GOC is one of the bravest women I know. Dedicated her life to serving children in Malawi through the gift of chess. Immensely proud to see her Chess project in Prisons featured on the New York times. nytimes.com/2025/06/27/wor…

Two absolute legends sitting across a simple @thegiftofchess chess set, the same chess set that has sparked opportunities all across the world. By sitting and playing they are fighting for what they believe. Opportunity. Not only for themselves but for others. You see chess saved both @Tunde_OD and @CoachShawnMar lives. One growing up in Brooklyn, NYC the other Lagos Nigeria. Chess allowed them to see themselves beyond their current environment. It allowed them to dream big and gave them the tools to reach those huge dreams. Over the next 30 + hours we will all watch them suffer to stay awake, suffer to maintain their sanity, suffer to keep the dream alive. Not for themselves but for the generation of millions of children across the globe that are screaming to be heard. But they have no microphone, they can’t be heard, their light of hope has been turned off. And here comes these two men shinning a flashlight, magnified by the bright lights of Times Square becomes a spotlight. A spotlight so bright that the world can no longer ignore it. And all those who have eyes cannot only see Tunde and Shawn but the children they represent. twitch.tv/chessinslums
