@iflingpoohere @Matt_Bracken48 A keyboard warrior with 20 years military experience and 3 combat tours in 2 different wars. But yeah, whatever you say. I wouldn't say the US Nsvy ships have been "driven out" of the gulf. The US Navy intentionally didn't put them there from the beginning.

Will somebody please explain to me how, with the Strait of Hormuz a no-go-zone for the U.S. Navy, and our warships driven out of the Persian Gulf, we can support a USMC amphibious landing on Kharg Island, 750 miles from the eastern tip of Oman?🧵 Is the Tripoli Amphibious Ready Group going to storm into the Persian Gulf, where our Burke-class destroyers won't go? Obviously not. This idea is insane. How about by helo and tilt-rotor? Out of range. What if they stage in Kuwait or Saudi Arabia for helo and Osprey lifts across the Gulf? Russia and China will tell Iran where to aim their drones and missiles while the force is assembling. Maybe a mass paradrop? Straight into an "Alamo" siege. Great idea. Not. What if the Marines just capture some of those "small" islands in the Strait of Hormuz? Qeshm is bigger than Okinawa. Larak is bigger than Iwo Jima. Any idea how many Marines and Soldiers it took to conquer just those 2 islands, at what cost in KIA and WIA? I keep reading absolute MORONS on X telling how some A-10s are "softening up" an area larger than South Vietnam, so that a few thousand Marines can attack and hold . . . what? It's as if space aliens studying only still images had no sense of scale of earth creatures, and thought a mouse could eat an elephant. It boggles my mind.

@highbrow_nobrow @atrupar "FC: Canada has a far higher standard of living than the United States." FACT CHECK : No it doesn't anymore. Canada plummeted from #4 to #33 on the countries of the world standard of living index in just ten years. USA remains between #12 and #16 during that same period.

Trita, your post reads like regime fan fiction. The war gutted Iran's military command, nuclear sites, navy, air force, and missile stocks—yet you spin higher oil prices (driven by global chaos Iran helped create) as some masterstroke victory. It's delusional. The regime's bleeding out; this isn't relief, it's a temporary cash drip before collapse. Face reality.

Energy industry insider in Iran tells me the following, and it is STUNNING: Before the war, Iran produced just shy of 1.1mn barrels of oil per day, and sold it at $65 per barrel minus $18 discount (i.e. $47) Today, it produces 1.5mn barrels a day, and sells it at $110 with only $2-4 discount. And this does not include petrochemical sales that not only have increased, but are now being sold to a larger set of customers compared to before the war. Moreover, Iran is receiving payments through new mechanisms that bypass the UAE, which were set up after the June war. In essence, and this is really important to understand, Trump and Israel's war has ended up delivering Iran de facto sanctions relief. This means that Iran is all the less incentivized to end the war, unless the agreement provides Iran with formal sanctions relief.

@CompletedStreet Don't use Edmonton as an example of less sprawl. Edmonton has a small downtown core and the rest of the city is a sprawling industrial park. There are fewer depressing places in Canada.

As a Cuban refugee and former political prisoner, I am appalled that you and your daughter are supporting the regime that has oppressed us for 67 years. The aid does not reach ordinary Cubans—it is sold in dollar stores—while you help whitewash a dictatorship. Shame on you, and shame on your daughter.
Ilhan Omar@IlhanMN

I am incredibly proud of Isra and everyone who made the trip to Cuba. They took tons of aid to make sure the people of Cuba knew that there are so many people across the world who stand in solidarity with them. Cuba has always sent aid to countries in need and has trained thousands of physicians across the world, including my childhood physician. @israhirsi is more than just my daughter, she is a brilliant young leader who has always worked hard to advocate for a more just world. She inspires me and so many people with her leadership and dedication. I am forever fortunate to have her as my daughter but I am even more fortunate to know her as the unflinching justice warrior for justice she is. #letcubalive

@Microinteracti1 Iran is a major financier, material supporter, and training support of terrorism. We don’t know where they were in the process weapons development and Europe relies on the peace dividend the US provides. Its useless.

This is Adam Mockler explaining to a MAGA panel how NATO actually works. The woman is furious. America is fighting in the Strait of Hormuz and the allies won’t show up. “What’s the point of an alliance if they won’t help us?” she asks. Mockler explains, with the patience of a man teaching long division to a golden retriever, that NATO is a defensive alliance. Article 5 is not a blank check. It does not activate because one member decided, unilaterally, to go to war in someone else’s waterway. Europe does not scramble its navies because Washington picked a fight and then expected company. The face she makes says everything. This is the real cost of ideological illiteracy in a nuclear-armed democracy. When the people advising power have never bothered to understand how the world is actually assembled, every institution becomes a betrayal. Every ally becomes a coward. Every rule becomes an obstacle. They spent years calling Europe freeloaders. Then started a war. Then got angry that the freeloaders wouldn’t come. The confusion is genuine. That’s the part that should keep you up at night. Gandalv / @Microinteracti1

Bro did you even listen to what this retard Mockler said? I made the same face listening to this kids' stupid explanation. Were any NATO nations attacked on 9/11? Yet they all agreed to invade Iraq and Afghanistan right? Why did they do that? Your point is invalid and makes no sense.

@NoahRettberg Hitler writes about this. They specifically volunteered for non-combat roles and used connections to get them so that they couldn’t be drafted into combat roles. Hitler writes he never saw a jew at the front or a non-jew in a rear role.

Jewish Germans had the highest rates of volunteering for the German Army in WWI. 100,000 jewish Germans served in WWI, out of a population of merely 500,000, meaning 40% of all male jewish Germans served. Also one has to understand one context about that picture: It was taken not in Germany but in Poland, which German had just taken from the Russian Empire. Russia was an extremely antisemeitic society while German at that time was one of the most philosemitic in Europe. So theese Jews are not laughing at the German soldier, they are happy about Germany defeating Russia.

I honestly can’t answer the question of why there is no mass anti-war movement in the present moment in the United States. The structural reason is perhaps that Americans would need to face material consequences from a war to protest it
