The best advice I've heard in a while: fall in love with feeling like a work in progress. You don't need to look polished, what actually matters is passion for the work itself. The best signal is that evening moment when you tell yourself today was a great day because I did a lot of things that genuinely made me happy.
Sahil Bloom@SahilBloom

A mentor once told me this: Fall in love with feeling like a work in progress. Resist the urge to look polished. You don’t need to pretend you have it all figured out. Nobody does. Embrace your unfinished form. Just commit to getting a better each day and trust where it leads.

@tyromper Nice, man. But I think the hardest part is building good habits. I have one rule: do something consistently for 20 days, and it starts to become a habit. After that, it feels much easier.

It’s HARD getting up at 6am to train. It’s HARD being out of shape. It’s HARD eating healthy food. It’s HARD being low energy. It’s HARD journaling & meditating daily. It’s HARD to live with constant anxiety. Life’s going to be hard. Choose your hard. The best news, No matter how far you’ve gone in the other direction, TODAY CAN BE DAY 1 to climb back out!! Let’s go!! STACK WINS & choose to have a great day by doing HARD things & pushing yourself to grow!

@SahilBloom This is so true, Sahil. I realized it in my thirties... most people are focused on their own lives. Live for your own happiness and for your family.

The best advice I got in my 20s: Nobody cares. Stop fearing the judgement of people who were never even thinking about you. Nobody is thinking about you. They’re too busy thinking about themselves. Go do the thing.

Day 2 building my iOS app. An AI health coach you just talk to: snap your meal and it logs the calories, pulls your steps and sleep from Apple Health, and gives you one honest score a day. Now dark, with voice input and two languages. Name coming soon.

Hi Jason, my name is Igor, and I’m from Slovakia. Thanks for sharing this. I’ve been a big fan of your work since the Basecamp days, and I’ve read both Rework and It Doesn’t Have to Be Crazy at Work. I agree that every person plays an important role in the process, but don’t you think things are changing now that AI allows people to build more on their own or with much smaller teams?

For all the love of entrepreneurship and founders and all that, remember that nearly every product you love wouldn't exist if everyone was an entrepreneur. Employees, teams, and groups build things. If everyone was every person for themselves, we'd have a lot less great stuff, not more.

Hi Ernesto, my name is Igor, and I’m from Slovakia. I came across your reply in my feed, and I found it really interesting. I’ve been thinking about it, and I believe there’s a lot of truth in what you said. I’m facing a similar challenge at the moment, as I’m working on three projects simultaneously while also handling client work. When it comes to monetization, what do you think is a healthy profit margin as a percentage of revenue?

Making multiple apps is a permanent mistake I made this mistake 1 year ago made like 12 apps it split my focus too much. theres so much to optimize in 1 single app and no time to be thinking about another one. Just to name a few things: → Day 1, 7 , 30 retention → Onboarding completion rate → Conversion rate at paywall → Trial conversion rate → ARPU ( test best pricing ) → CPA on ads ( tied to product ) → Web funnels → Profit margins → UGC deals → Organic marketing systems → Team culture and so much more. there are infinite things to do with 1 app making $10 - $20k/mo means nothing because once said apps stop running ads, They will go to $0 and at that point you are not building an app that’s just a cash grab, might as well pack it up and start drop shipping so focus on 1 app, and make it generational. thats the only way this business model makes sense.

Hi Justin, that’s a really nice idea. I used to write daily notes, but eventually I became too lazy to keep doing it every day. Nowadays, I think a great way to put your thoughts on “paper” is by using AI to brainstorm your problems, reflect on your life, and have something like a personal coach.

Hi Mikhail! I actually changed my pricing strategy today. Instead of offering a 7-day free trial, I’m switching to a free lifetime plan with some limitations. My hope is that once users get used to the app and develop a bit of a mini addiction to it , they’ll be more willing to upgrade to the paid version.

@TTrimoreau Hi Thomas, of course. For me, the most important thing is to create an app that solves a real problem I’m dealing with, solve it in the best possible way, and then offer it to potential customers.

An AI health coach that makes up calorie numbers is worse than no coach. So before my app gives advice, I ran deep research on the science and the WHO guidelines, with every single claim adversarially fact checked, and only the ones that survived made it into the coach. Half the topics did not survive, so on those the coach just says it does not know instead of inventing a number.

@thejustinwelsh really nice thought, but the same thing can quietly happen solo. burn out and suddenly you feel just as undervalued, only now there's no boss to blame, just you.

still replying at 18.8 says a lot, congrats buddy :) i just started posting here next to my company where i build shopify e-shops, right now working on Maro, an app you brain-dump to and it turns the mess into organized tasks and a clear plan. was it pure volume of replies for you, or a few that broke through?

@athcanft Congrats, that flip takes guts :) honest question, what does retention look like at 9.99/week with no trial? i'm pricing my own consumer app right now and the weekly play tempts me.

Started building my first iOS app: a personal AI health coach. You chat with it, send a photo of your lunch, and it logs calories and macros, reads steps and sleep from HealthKit and scores your day 0 to 100. No forms anywhere, onboarding is a conversation.
