3 things to know when running ads for your app:
1/ organic viral ≠ successful ad
organic viral is basically free money, so conversion rate doesn’t matter that much - with ads the content needs to be designed for conversion to be profitable
2/ let it spend
let every ad get at LEAST $50 of spend before even considering drawing a conclusion on whether it is successful - otherwise you’re guessing on natural variance
3/ variants are king
when you find a winning format, absolutely milk the hell out of it, make tonnes of variants just changing the person in the video, or the hook caption, or the music - this is how agencies run the same format for years

@athcanft GFs are overrated. Eventually, they cheat on you. Realize the guy that they cheated with gives no fucks about them. Then they are back puppy dogging again. You have a less than 10% of scoring a loyal one.

@athcanft If there's hard paywall then what number does it show in Active Trials box? And it shows in near past, specifying you removed the hard paywall which is contradictory to what you've written above.

5 things that got me to >$10K mrr with my mobile app
1. hard paywall
i tested trials, freemium and eventually ended up on a hard paywall with no trial - 5-8% install to paid rate
2. increasing prices
i started with $3.99/month and now offer $9.99/week or $49.99/year - this seems to be the best combo for maximizing LTV
3. onboarding
i've tested all sorts of length of onboarding but 12-15 steps seems to be optimal for install to paid conversion (at least my apps)
4. tiktok ads
i tried influencers, organic - but tiktok ads seems to have the highest effort : reward ratio - there's higher margins in influencers + organic but ads are so low effort it's great
5. ad tactics
using tiktoks Smart+ campaigns, adding "comment bait" in ads (flashing men kissing etc.), NOT mentioning app CTAs (i.e. "download glowly") - all resulted in higher CTRs and conversions

Finally making some progress
1.84x ROAS
(For every dollar spent on marketing today I got $1.84)
Key learnings so far:

1. Increased prices to $49.99/yr or $14.99/m
With better margins you can afford $24.85 per acquisition. You can survive metas learning phase!
ASO pricing doesn’t work. You can’t afford weekly pricing and wait for them to stay subscribed for weeks. You need revenue quick (cashflow)

2. Created a web2app funnel (built my own)
App Store traffic is EXPENSIVE. And downloads are binary (either they download or they don’t.. no in between)
Plus: you gotta install all the arbitration stuff in your app. I really can’t be bothered.
Instead I’ve been building a app2web flow
Tried replicating cal ai and simply piano 32+ step flow but most people never got to the paywall
Instead I stripped it down to 3 screens:
Hero, testimonial, paywall
Then A/B tested these screens endlessly until I started to get conversions
Spoiler: today it’s converting (finally)
3. Feed the meta pixel as much data as possible
My funnel triggers data each step of the way. This helps meta find the right users who will progress through the funnel.
Hardest part seems to be training the algorithm for the right users who purchase. But you need people purchasing to train. Catch 22
Trickle feeding the algorithm each step of the way seems to help meta nudge in the right direction.
