Huge email news from Teacher Pensions! From 1st Oct teachers who started teaching before 2012 will be able to elect for Buy Out and reduce their retirement age by up to 3 years without any actuarial adjustment. This will cost and has to be done within 6 months. Talk to an IFA

I just learned through a friend of his wife, that David Rayner (author of many maths textbooks including the classic Blue Rayner) passed away recently 😢. I worked with him for a couple of years and he was so funny, so clever and he helped many of us with his excellent books.

@MrWithersKS1 @GuyCarpenter567 This might explain what's going on. It relies on the second number being a string of 9s. Just adjust the number of zeros to match the number of 9s in the string 😊. Nice little puzzle!

@Whitehughes I often teach Gaussian elimination as a method to calculate Inverse of matrices to FM students...

@tm_maths @Whitehughes I bought a copy of MathType years ago and it still works. They keep trying to get me to upgrade to an annual subscription but I am fighting it! 😂

@Whitehughes We are certainly representatives of MathType on Twitter. It is a sad day cos I don't have £40 to spare as I've just paid for my road tax.

@robotmaths @SMART_Tech Not too long ago SMART put a watermark on EVERY page which only disappears when you are connected to a SMART board...who plans.their lessons whilst connected? We have to work with not being able to clearly see some of the screen. It's infuriating.

Teachers with access to *SMART boards and screens* (only) in their classroom: What software do you use to plan lessons? Please reply and RT so @SMART_Tech can see the issues.

@robotmaths Has anyone got their free calculator? Someone posted a link on here a couple of weeks ago to get a free copy but mine has not arrived yet 😭

@mathhombre Sin(1/x) is another good example that a graph can cross a horizontal asymptote infinitely many times but long term tends to 0 😊

@Missy_E36 I had a parent complain about me for not being at Parents Evening - even though SLT told them that I was at the hospital for the birth of my first child...😢

Getting grief from a parent because I had an emergency dental appointment today. Believe me, I would have 100% preferred to be in my classroom than in that dentist chair being fitted for a crown 😭 My mouth is still numb and it’s throbbing. She can bog off!!

@LeightonM4ths @Whitehughes @robotmaths @TLMaths @tm_maths I think by this stage of the course they have met natural log (last chapter in Year 1 in the Edexcel books?). From this point on I (think I) only use Ln for equations (even if the base in the equations is not e - it's a habit of mine).

@zambukness Whoever I feel needs it most. Passing it to my spouse is passing the buck I know, and she can make her own decision as to which relatives she wants to leave it to. But none of my relatives are dependent on me.

Not a chance. They have their own parents to leave them money. In any case by the time I die they'll already have families and be on the property ladder. I feel no sense of obligation to non-dependents.
BSpencer@zambukness

@MoneySavingExp I’m assuming that with you not having children your nieces/nephews will be beneficiaries in your will so the families wealth will be passed down to them eventually. I don’t have children, my sister has 2. My mum’s inheritance will be split 50/50.

@okimaths Not at all, I get that his resources are loved by many and that his sister really wants to keep his work alive and accessible. She is not on Twitter so I keep an eye out in case of website issues which the site do not make her aware of. 😊

It looks like all the files on Madasmaths have disappeared. A 404 file not found on this server message appears. It is vital that these are recovered but they have disabled the contact form after Trifon Madas died. Can anyone find a way to recover this most vital resource?
