@gavi @SaniaNishtar If it looks like a religion and sounds like a religion...

“Gavi is committed to playing its part, and we will work with our partners to do everything we can to bring this terrible outbreak to an end.” Our CEO Dr @SaniaNishtar outlines the three roles we are playing in the response to the ongoing outbreak of #Ebola Disease caused by Bundibugyo virus in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda:

@DrCatharineY If you're not locking down right now you're a vaccine-denier.

The development of new Ebola vaccines is a reminder of what science, global collaboration, and sustained investment in preparedness can make possible before outbreaks become global catastrophes.

Charles Dickens Museum condemns his “prejudice” as staff are warned that his views could “cause great offence today”.
Internal guidance at the council-run Guildhall Museum in Rochester has been issued to staff to combat Dickens’s “particularly upsetting” views.
The museum dedicated to the life of the author of Great Expectations celebrates his work but has sought to distance itself from his views on race and the British Empire.
The guidance states: “Today we reject his views, but even at the time, there were a number of important figures who argued for the universal worth of all people and cultures, regardless of race or background. We have to acknowledge that Dickens did not think like this.”
In 2025, The Telegraph revealed that the birthplace of William Shakespeare was to be “decolonised” after concerns were raised that the playwright was being used to promote “white supremacy”.
What absolute madness.

Did some airplane travel this week- the number of people back to wearing masks over hantavirus and Ebola is truly shocking.
I feel sad for the people who live their lives in fear over over-hyped, extremely rare diseases.
People, so fearful that they can't go out in public or travel without masks...
I pity them, I worry for their mental health, I even worry for our country that has so many guillible people - but these poor fools are not my enemy.

@AlpacaAurelius Um, Hawaii IS the US --you need better stats.

This is a confident little pile-up of confusions.
BC/AD and BCE/CE are not different calendars. They are different labels for the same year-numbering convention. The Gregorian calendar is the calendar system. "Before Christ", "Anno Domini", "Before Common Era", and "Common Era" are era labels. Mixing those up is like thinking changing "miles" to "kilometres" alters the road.
Also, "Anno Domini" does not mean "after Christ". It means "in the year of our Lord". The old schoolroom "BC/AD" pairing is already a bit theologically messy, which is one reason BCE/CE is useful in academic and inter-cultural contexts.
Nobody is deleting history by saying BCE and CE. The numbering is still historically derived from the Christian era. The difference is that scholarship does not require everyone else to perform a tiny confession of Christian framing every time they mention Julius Caesar, Babylon, or the Permian extinction.
So, yes, use BC/AD if you like. But pretending BCE/CE is an attack on history is just culture-war grievance trying to pass itself off as chronological literacy.

@alex_fasulo I mean, how do you even work land covered in these things? Actual farmers must laugh at these justifications.
English

The land under these panels will never be farmed again.
Potato growing associations nationwide will not buy potatoes grown on ex-solar sites.
Why?
The panels leach heavy metals, as well as drop glass shards and microplastics onto the soil below them.
In a mass commercial arrangement, vegetation below the panels is soaked in herbicides.
The fertile farmland is gone forever.

@AlexBerenson Curious where in this report they break down cancer incidence by covid vaccination status? The only vaccine they mention in the report is HPV (for obvious reasons).
English

Cue the usual people screaming, like the Norwegian government is somehow lying in its cancer registry to make Moderna happy
Alex Berenson@AlexBerenson
GOOD NEWS (though the usual people on here will scream at me over it). New data shows mRNA Covid shots don't have a long-term cancer risk. Cancer registries in Norway (through 2025, amazingly) and Sweden (2024), which were heavily jabbed, show no change in long-term trends.
English

@sammysan97 @SenAngusKing If only they could have bought a cheap invention that prevents this happening. A kind of "bath mat", if you will.
English

@SenAngusKing If you saw how many boomers come into the hospital for hip fractures and brain injuries from slipping in their shower you'd advocate for this too. We legit spend trillions on CT scans and hip replacements for these people every time they fall.
English

@AlexBerenson Not sure how you can claim it shows that when it's only been 5 years.
Personally I don't believe the mRNA shots cause cancer, but let's keep an open mind shall we?

I'm 43 now, and I've now seen three distinct phases in my life regarding attitudes towards gender/sex. Here's a handy guide for determining which one is the correct take:
1) Pre-1990ish: "Little Billy can't play with dolls b/c he's a boy and everyone knows boys don't play with dolls" ❌
2) 1990-2010: "Little Billy can play with dolls if he wants, boys can play with dolls. It doesn't make him any less of a boy" ✅
3) 2010 - Present : "Little Billy IS a girl because he plays with dolls, because everyone knows boys don't play with dolls" ❌
As we can see, #2 is the correct choice. #1 and #3 are examples of toxic right wing gender norms, and toxic left wing gender norms, respectively.
That's the funny thing about gender ideology; despite its adherents loud claims that they are somehow smashing traditional gender-based norms and stereotypes, they're actually rigidly enforcing them.
The truly enlightened viewpoint is that there is no right or wrong way to be a boy or girl and kids should feel free to explore and play with whatever they want without activists with an agenda slapping an inappropriate label on them and forcing them into a pathway towards lifelong medicalization and dependency on Big Pharma.

@ggreenwald Not sure exactly when it happened, but the US has been conquered.

If the AIPAC/Adelson crowd wants someone out of Congress for disloyalty to Israel, they will be out of Congress.
There are a few exceptions due to unusual districts, but not many. The Israel Lobby has unlimited funding and will spend limitlessly to expunge the blasphemous.

@boriquagato It's been a while since I read the Odyssey, but I don't remember Helen or Achilles getting much more than a mention in it. My guess is this was strategic ragebait to get people talking about the movie.
