@PrisonStorm Absolutely, it’s a basic right. But for anyone that feels prisoners should lose those rights, then it’s also in the public interest that healthy habits are maintained/ formed whilst behind bars.

@imogenwalsh Access to sport should never be "a perk" in #prisons, and yet the pervading Basic | Standard | Enhanced incentive schemes vary largely between prisons and Governing Governors. Check out the Incentive Levels aka Incentives and Earned Privileges (IEP), in old parlance.

The importance of purposeful activity in prisons to both individual & community, mustn’t be underestimated or thought of as a “perk”. It’s vital to reduce offending on release. Sport/gym identified as one such activities. We aim to give that opportunity to as many as possible!

Today, we have published a key findings paper that digs deeper into the ongoing failings in purposeful activity. Read the paper: hmiprisons.justiceinspectorates.gov.uk/hmipris_report… And our media release: hmiprisons.justiceinspectorates.gov.uk/news/key-findi…

Great to see this holistic approach to nourishment. Having worked @HmpSend for some time, I know how much staff work to support & empower the women, to live a crime-free life on release. Prison is punishment, but also preventing possible future offending bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

Very lucky to have worked with @bbcideas and @UniofOxford to create a short video about our research! We explain why exercising with friends can reduce fatigue and improve performance, while also helping us to build and maintain the social bonds we need to be happy and healthy.

How exercising with family and friends can boost physical performance as well as improving mental health 🏃 @oxsocsci's Dr @Arran_Davis shares the science behind the benefits of exercising together. 🎬 | @bbcideas

Huge thanks to @LondonSport @ITVX @amberahmad55 for making this piece about Boats not Bars. With more support we hope to reach more participants, and help people stay away from crime on release, helping not just them, but the communities around them. itv.com/watch/news/lif…

Thanks @BBCRadioLondon and @EddieNestorMBE for giving me the chance to chat about Boats not Bars. The more we tackle reoffending rates, the better the lives all Londoners will be.

@AndrewLawton_ @FulhamReachBC @LondonSport Thanks Andrew! “Looking forward” to reading the doc. sounds wrong! But the more researched evidence like this which validates programs like BnB, the more I hope the public and politicians get behind them. Only then will be really change the reoffending situation.

Re-watching “Trading Places” after many years… it’s both totally outdated and racist, but (sadly) totally on point and current at the same time.

@imogenwalsh Braverman and co have no interest in the facts, only the rhetoric that they think their voter base want to hear The work you and others at Fulham Reach to rehabilitate helps so much more than their “deterrent” approach, it’s inspiring to read about

How anyone with even the slightest awareness of the figures - produced by the MoJ and the government no less, can say this is astounding. To say it makes me angry reading this is an understatement…
Suella Braverman@SuellaBraverman

Prison works. It is a deterrent, it takes criminals off our streets and is justice for their victims. This bill will severely undermine confidence in our criminal justice system. The solution to this problem is to build more prisons, not let criminals off the hook. 3/3
