Trump is prohibited from withdrawing US from #NATO without 2/3 vote in Senate or act of Congress. Withdrawing from NATO would go down as dumbest, most self-defeating US security move in decades. #Russia and #China would celebrate Trump decision to reduce US power and influence.

For Putin, having Trump keep the US inside NATO, but paralyzing it from within is much more valuable than merely having the US out of NATO. So, don't believe it. Trump will now just destroy it, but keeping the US in to assure they can never resist Putin's actions.

Trump likely wants to leave NATO but the GOP Congress won't go with that now, and it'd be unpopular with the base. Europe's temper tantrum over Iran can shift things in Trump's favor. We don't recommend this strategy.
