@hellwig_brian @atrupar I’m from NYC. Have family there like my mom and many cousins and friends there. All my younger cousins voted for him. My elders did not. Now they love him! My mom raves about him all the time and she was big Cumo fan. They feel hope again. It’s nice to be around. Have fun in OR

@atrupar He's talking about a city he isn't from, an era in which he wasn't alive, to a group of native born New Yorkers who didn't vote for him. Fuck him.

here is Mamdani's entire speech at the Knicks parade, which is easily the best speech I've ever heard at an event of this sort

I still think we have not talked enough about how Sterling K. Brown just totally owned those five minutes he was in Black Panther.

Happy Father’s Day, New York City!

This year, we’re celebrating some of New York’s Dads whose children followed them into service as City workers.

From Sanitation to Education to FDNY, these families keep our City running. Pictured: Captain Felix Valentin and Firefighter Stephanie Valentin.

Netflix doc Maternal Instinct… what she did was horrific and this is besides the point but she did all that for a guy who didn’t even like her much less love her. Like I never got why she was into him? But she was crazy and that poor family.

For those who are too young to remember: Mamdani’s New York is what the Obamas’ US used to feel like. Filled with joy, promise and hope. So much freaking hope...

You MUST by all means develop a strong opinion of yourself so you don't end up internalizing the beliefs others have of you.

Barack: You told me all those years ago that you couldn’t promise me the world, but you could promise me an interesting life. Of course, you outdid yourself and managed to give me both. Eight years in the crucible, and not once did you melt from the heat. Not once did you let it harden you. Instead, you used it to reveal your truest essence: your stubborn optimism and unflinching courage, your dazzling brilliance and unpretentious decency, your ferocious work ethic and absolutely unshakable moral fiber.

On June 19, 1865, African American communities in Galveston, Texas, finally learned of their freedom from slavery — two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation took effect. For 161 years, Juneteenth has been a day of remembrance for the freedom that was delayed. It is also a celebration of the joy and resilience that flourished despite that delay. The contributions of African Americans, whose struggle for freedom shaped our nation, are immeasurable. Yet too many Black families continue to bear the brunt of an affordability crisis that has pushed them out of the neighborhoods and communities they've built. True freedom has a tangible impact on daily life: the ability to afford housing, earn a living wage, put food on the table, support a family, and create a future for generations to come. As we celebrate today, we must recommit ourselves to ensuring this freedom is fully realized. Happy Juneteenth, New York City.
