The ‘Together against the far right’ march was fronted today by Jeremy Corbyn. A man who led the Labour Party to become legally ruled against as discriminating against Jewish members. They say “this is what community looks like”. I say no thanks.

Still can’t believe that England are going to the World Cup without arguably their best passer. Watching fringe candidates labour at Wembley highlights even more the nonsense of Alexander-Arnold’s omission. He’s a game-changing option from the bench. If you have pace out wide in Gordon/Rashford and Saka/Madueke/Bowen and want to launch a quick counter, TAA can deliver. If England are in a shoutout, he can deliver. Risk/reward. #ENG

I’m absolutely livid. @Nigel_Farage and his @reformparty_uk MPs just walked out during my question to the PM about keeping snooker in Sheffield and getting a tram-train extension to Stocksbridge. Farage and Reform don’t care about constituencies or communities like mine.

Immigration climbdown incoming? After yesterday's attack by Angela Rayner on "un-British" reforms, Downing Street now repeatedly refusing to stand by Shabana Mahmood's policy to toughen the indefinite leave to remain criteria. No10 still saying they are committed to a "fair" immigration system but will now not get ahead of a government "consultation".

@aktom007 @enchanted_fam @AlexBerish @JackElsom It’s easy to get here on a SC visa and work in our unregulated jobs market unfortunately, its the same if you scam a student visa. No need to jail anyone, just restrict ILR or preferably end it. We do need the worlds unskilled poor.

@enchanted_fam @AlexBerish @JackElsom Our immigration system is being scammed and it’s the fault of successive governments. The last government identified the need for 6000 social care workers, we ended up dishing out 600K social care visas, many of whom never even worked on the sector at all and are now due ILR.

@irheard @AlexBerish @JackElsom First it’s not 4million. Get your facts right. Secondly getting a job after studying and switching to skilled visa is not games. It’s development, it’s career advancement and the worker pays tax. Again , the 5 yrs routes starts only after the student has skilled visa.

@enchanted_fam @AlexBerish @JackElsom If you think the ILR route cannot be gamed by switching to a skills visa or increasingly by claiming asylum you’re deluded. Do you deny the fiscal exposure to the 4 million ‘Boris-wave’ migrants coming up to their ILR qualification?

@irheard @AlexBerish @JackElsom Very funny. You seem not to know or understand how this works. Student visas has no pathway to ILR whatsoever. Only those on Skilled Visa , their dependents or those on spousal visa can get ILR.

@enchanted_fam @AlexBerish @JackElsom Unfortunately 80% of the visas dolled out post covid were not work visas they were either students and dependents, these folks have never worked (at least officially) and will when ILR is granted be huge drain on the public purse.

@AlexBerish @JackElsom Unfortunately the massive fiscal exposure to the 5 year ILR policy makes the reforms a political imperative.

as an American immigrant working in tech i sure hope so the financial incentive for me to leave and go back to the US to contribute to the US's economy instead of the UK's would be immense if the reforms are implemented retrospectively and i actually agree with the direction of the reforms, they just did not think through the retrospective application element enough as it leaves many people like me in weird policy gaps that were obviously unintentional.
