@FormulaRana I don't agree with this take at all, no one will risk getting worse punishment by playing the appeals game. Even if they were to appeal they'll be rejected if baseless. Certain appeal wins will force FIA to be more careful in the future.

Alpine are correct but the FIA cannot budge here. I know this is not what Alpine/Gasly did in Monaco, but Alpine winning this appeal will simply encourage teams and drivers to not serve penalties during the race and just appeal them once it’s all said and done. Had Russell simply just not served his drive through (for not serving the original penalty) - we are green-lighting the message that they could’ve lodged an appeal, won it and taken the podium 5 days later. Referee mistakes happen in sport - Alpine and everyone else needs to move on. Like the rest of the unfairly punished did.
