@ishdo79

Might talk about anything but mainly here for Running, Cycling and FPL. If I get dragged into work stuff, I’ve been on the AI train since 1999, where you been?

@jgault13 Great idea. Jake Wightman's mum was 4th in 1988 and lost in a sea of men until the very end.

Interesting idea...there is an insane level of demand to run London (1.1 million applications for 2026), though a two-day race would still produce a less than 10% acceptance rate (assuming demand holds). Elite men's and women's races would be held on separate days.

@Jamesmolesruns Genuinely not sure why the elite women should have any different reaction to the elite men, who’s to say who races on which day, and they don’t race together anyway. Splitting them just means there’s an elite race on both days, don’t see it signalling any inferiority

@GestaltedApe @HankFrank Out of interest have you ever stood amongst a group of pro cyclists. Nobody could stand in a group of pro cyclists and think they’re with big dudes. Honestly, I’m done with this, if you’re shifting the goalposts to 75kg men being big to make the argument work it’s pointless.

I argued no such thing, explain what you are talking about. I will argue that a 75-80kg man is a LARGE man. I discount and could give a fuck about the fatties. If you're under 15% fat and not a total fucking slob, a guy in that 75-80kg range is a BIG DUDE. I'd go as far as to say, humans don't really get much bigger than that, unless they are: freakishly tall, fat, or spend several years or more building muscle.

@GestaltedApe @HankFrank Because you argued the watt/kg don’t matter, that bigger guys win. They don’t. All winning bike riders are small, the winningest are tiny, but they are all small. You can’t claim big people have an advantage and then use 75kg fully grown men as an example of one.

@ishdo79 @HankFrank Why are you interested in cyclists who would be "big in the real world". In the real world, well, at least in the US, 80kg is small for a man. Everyone is fat. The average man in the US I think is pushing 90kg. At like 173cm.

@GestaltedApe @HankFrank I first watched cycling when Big Mig was the man. He absolutely was massive for a cyclist. The clue was in the name. He was 76-80kg.

@GestaltedApe @HankFrank Brennan isn’t a climber. The sprinters I listed aren’t climbers. Sonny Colbreli wasn’t a climber. Let’s turn it around list the cyclists you mean, who would be considered big in the real world.

@GestaltedApe @HankFrank The playing field is more even in bunch sprints, but for every Milan or Bennett there’s at least one Cav, or Jasper, or Ewan and Brennan. At Paris-roubaix, the best hope for a bigger guy, it’s been Colbrelli and Jasper if not MVDP. It’ll probably be Pogi

@GestaltedApe @HankFrank Who’s been good this year: Pogi, Jonas, Remco, Del Toro, Siexas, Pidcock, Brennan… and MVDP. Other than the “massive” (/s) 75kg MVDP they are all absolutely tiny, to a man

@GestaltedApe @HankFrank To your point on Pogi, he can rouler as good as anyone when he wants to, hence all his 80km breakaway wins. Yes MVDP can out sprint on equal footing, but then Cav could out sprint both. Anyway, MVDP is still a small human in the real world (1.84m, 75kg)

@GestaltedApe @HankFrank Absolutely not true. And yes I am a cyclist, Ive been a very good one. At 63kg and a relatively puny absolute FTP I can keep up with almost anyone on almost anything. Pogi and Cav are the best to ever do it at their relative disciplines. Remco is unbeatable in TT rn, all midgets.
