@garrytan harnesses are an LLM loop with tools…. there is a lot of careful engineering into tightening that basic construct to work well for all kinds of tasks. (context management over time, which tools to expose, supporting more than one model etc)

Fat harnesses are just someone else’s bundled closed source skills and code

Developers are splitting into 2 camps: 1. Makers love what the code creates 2. Craftsmen love understanding how it works AI is a cheat code for makers. But for craftsmen it's a tool, not a replacement. Figure out which one you are. It changes everything about how you use AI.

@housecor it changes the game from understanding the system and problem well and carefully steer it, to managing it with learnt experience how to make a project survive longer. the problem is it doesn't follow all instructions reliably at all times

I thought AI would lead to more slop. I've actually found it's leading to the best code I've written. Here's why: I can fix anti-patterns quickly. I can ask it to follow coding standards. I can ask for big, time-consuming refactors. And the code feels more consistent, because it's mostly written by AI, not a bunch of separate personalities.
