Improving equitable access to comprehensive care for people with advanced breast cancer: a global expert review and call-to-action for 2025–2035 (Goal 9) buff.ly/DDuvaTC Advanced #BreastCancer (ABC) remains treatable but incurable, and despite major therapeutic progress, global access to effective care is increasingly uneven. According to research for the ABC Global Alliance’s Global Decade Report 2.0, widening disparities in diagnostics, treatment infrastructure, drug supply, and reimbursement systems continue to delay and limit appropriate care, while high out-of-pocket costs create severe financial strain across all income levels. Nonetheless, collaborative, multi-stakeholder initiatives in low-resource settings are beginning to improve access. Day 1 of #ESSO44 in Gothenburg Sweden, Presentation by Dr. Markus Mille 🇩🇪 Discussing: Robotic Single Port SP Surgery Robotic single-port (SP) surgery, enabled by the da Vinci SP system, represents an advanced evolution in robotic-assisted surgery by allowing true single-site access and innovative surgical approaches. Early experience from St. Georg Hospital Eisenach (Germany) demonstrates its feasibility in complex oncologic procedures, including transanal resection, right hemicolectomy, and distal pancreatectomy. Preliminary comparisons with traditional multi-port techniques suggest potential perioperative advantages—such as shorter hospital stays and reduced postoperative pain—without compromising oncologic outcomes. Day 2 of #ESSO44 in Gothenburg Sweden, Presentation by Dr. Oliver Gimm 🇸🇪 Updates on Partial Adrenalectomy for Medullary and Cortical Adrenal Tumours Partial adrenalectomy serves primarily to preserve adrenal function in patients with bilateral adrenal disease. For medullary tumors such as pheochromocytomas, it is recommended in individuals at high risk of bilateral disease but low risk of malignancy, with over half avoiding lifelong steroid replacement and recurrences often manageable with repeat partial surgery. In contrast, for cortical tumors like aldosterone-producing adenomas, the role of partial adrenalectomy remains uncertain due to up to a 30% risk of non-curative outcomes. In bilateral cortisol-producing conditions such as PBMAH and PPNAD, bilateral adrenalectomy remains standard, though unilateral adrenalectomy may be suitable in select cases. Day 2 of #ESSO44 in Gothenburg Sweden, Presentation by Dr. Jakob Hedberg of Uppsala🇸🇪 dMMR tumors in clinical practice? Do we have evidence for neoadjuvant strategy? In oesophageal and gastric cancer, tumours with defect mismatched repair genes (dMMR) are in minority but constitute a special clinical entity. These tumours are highly immunogenic and therefore a suitable target for immunotherapy with checkpoint inhibitors. Favourable outcomes for patients with advanced dMMR tumours have led to interest in neoadjuvant treatment in localized disease.
