Tonight I’m keeping my kid company as they try to get to sleep, listening to bangs outside and hoping that they’re just fireworks while I try to sort out from the news on my feed *how many* mass shootings there already were today (seems like at least 2, maybe 3?).

I was never particularly patriotic, but when I was younger July 4th at least seemed like an opportunity to celebrate the highlights of the USA’s non-evil accomplishments, such as they are. Grateful for the opportunity that this country granted my family.

The clinic staff spent Friday canceling the appointments of 60-70 patients scheduled for abortions in the coming weeks. “Some patients broke down and could not speak through their sobbing. Some patients were stunned and didn't know what to say. Some patients did not understand.”

@glyph Basically starting in 2022 if you have more than $600 in 3rd party payments (Venmo, PayPal) you can be issued a 1099k for those. So being able to prove those aren’t income might be useful.

@itsmykt Thanks for the advice! I don't know anything about 1099-K rules, are those about what needs to be in the payment system itself?

Never tell Venmo what your payment is for. There is simply no reason to; it’s just an opportunity to get put on a list. Just write “payment” on the memo line, maybe an invoice number. If you need to track it for taxes or something, you can write that down elsewhere.

@RachaelHerron Locked down. except kiddo goes to school with an N95 and weekly pcr tests. Daily Elementary school germ factory takes 100% of our risk.

(It’s *supposed* to be back on in less than 2 hours but previous experience with public utilities leaves me dreading the possibility that it’s either 2 hours *or* 3-4 weeks as we wait to reschedule with some guy who forgot to tell everyone he was going on vacation yesterday)
