I'm not gonna critique the fight choreo, but the gratuitous use of ramping overcrank here is distracting and condescending to the audience. What are the narrative rules of the slow motion? When does it occur? Why does it occur? You should have those things figured out.

And it’s why Lolita is fundamentally unadaptable (for film) because any “objective” depiction of Dolores solidifies her character, when she’s supposed to be warped as Lolita through Humbert’s colored lenses. Nabokov WANTS us to see her through Humbert’s eyes AND condemn his unreliable narration

we learn at the end of "Lolita" that the "tragic love story" was one-sided; Lolita never loved Humbert Humbert. Nabokov makes that clear; the author understands that Humbert ruined Lolita's childhood, took advantage of her being an orphan, totally misunderstood his sexual abuse of an underaged girl as if it were an idyllic romance. that is why Lolita runs away with Clare Quilty--(though that too is a sordid mistake, as the adult Lolita tells Humbert.) both movies seem to betray Nabokov's intention by giving Lolita a sort of adult/femme fatal power over Humbert, & making him weak, a victim instead of a pedophile. the physicality of an adult male vis a vis a 12-year-old girl is profound. yet pedophiles often "blame" their victims for enticing them. contemporary readers of "Lolita" may interpret the novel more in line with Nabokov.
