AI Shows Higher Emotional IQ than Humans A new study reveals that large language models (LLMs), including ChatGPT, outperform humans on emotional intelligence (EI) tests traditionally used in psychology and workplace settings. Researchers subjected six AI models to five standardized EI assessments involving emotionally charged scenarios. The AIs scored an average of 82%, significantly higher than the 56% achieved by human participants. Beyond answering EI questions, ChatGPT-4 was also able to generate entirely new, high-quality EI tests in record time. These tests proved just as reliable and realistic as human-designed ones, suggesting AIs can reason about emotions with surprising nuance. The study highlights the potential for emotionally intelligent AI to support human roles in education, coaching, and conflict resolution when guided by expert oversight.
