@CaryW66 @TubelessTires @DDrewseph @Mr_Husky1 You shouldn't have required daycare services being a SAHM for a decade to just 2 children. Between adjusting parental work schedules and rotating family supervision (even in small families), it is not difficult to manage childcare.

@ixvesi @TubelessTires @DDrewseph @Mr_Husky1 Do you honestly think watching kids for a week or 2 a year can take the place of daycare? How does that work? Do you think people have 20some relatives & friends that can all take a couple weeks so the whole year is covered? I seriously don’t understand what you’re suggesting!

Hot Take: Is being a parent really “too” expensive? Or are you just making expensive parenting choices? -Breastfeeding (if you can) is practically free -Daycare is a choice (stay home/work opposite shifts) -Cloth diapers are an affordable investment -A swing, bouncer, changing table etc aren’t “necessities” -Secondhand or hand me down clothes work just as well What’s your personal take?

@ixvesi @TubelessTires @DDrewseph @Mr_Husky1 Nope, married 35 years 2 kids 4 grandkids, SAHM for 10 years, watched my sister's kids a week or so in the summer, watched the grands during school breaks... I've been in the trenches, that's why I know how unrealistic it is to say "JuSt GeT FaMLiY tO do FuLl TiMe ChiLdcArE!"

@CaryW66 @TubelessTires @DDrewseph @Mr_Husky1 Lady, you come off like a single mom. Your issues are greater than relative distance and failing health. Maybe if your family were whole, you'd have had adequate childcare - without being a degenerate polygamist.

@ixvesi @TubelessTires @DDrewseph @Mr_Husky1 When my kids were young my parents were still working, my grand & great grandparents were either dead, too frail, or lived too far away, my other relatives & friends all had jobs, families of their own or lived too far away. The only families who could do this were polygamists.

@CaryW66 @TubelessTires @DDrewseph @Mr_Husky1 Do young families not have parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins, siblings, friends, etc.? That's a pretty sizeable pool of people to assist in divvying up childcare for a few short years.

@ixvesi @TubelessTires @DDrewseph @Mr_Husky1 It's not mindset, it's practicality. I just don't understand why you think young families commonly have relatives that have the time, the ability and the wealth to regularly do unpaid or low paid childcare. Emergency and occasional childcare, sure, but that can't replace daycare.

@CaryW66 @TubelessTires @DDrewseph @Mr_Husky1 In the same way you take family in when they get old instead of throwing them in a nursing home, family comes together to help raise the young instead of sending them off to daycare. It's actually not that complicated for people who aren't of the "what's in it for me" mindset.

@ixvesi @TubelessTires @DDrewseph @Mr_Husky1 I just don't get how this is supposed to work when most people don't have family that is willing or able to watch their kids, especially if it's for little or no compensation. It seems completely unrealistic for most families to count on this.

@CaryW66 @TubelessTires @DDrewseph @Mr_Husky1 You're making shit up to be mad at. Never said grandma should quit her job. Never said family should get compensation on par with a full-time job. Only the selfish view helping their families as an employment venture.

@ixvesi @TubelessTires @DDrewseph @Mr_Husky1 How is it cost effective for the grandma who is expected to quit her job and watch her grandkids for free? If they are planning to pay her the same as she was making (including health insurance and retirement) then it's not going to cost less than daycare. I don't get it.

@Aeon212 @Nickisbackbaby No it hasn't, but conservatives love "rules for thee, not for me" because it allows them to continue viewing themselves as morally superior to liberals. All the while neglecting that the commandment "Thou shall not kill" didn't really offer exceptions for violent criminals.

Can someone explain this to me like you would a child. The majority of liberals oppose the death penalty even for horrendous crimes. But are totally fine with abortions. Why? I fail to see the logic.

@thechosenberg It's one thing to teach your children a lesson that will positively impact them. It's another thing to force them into decades of loan payments that, in total, likely could've bought a sizeable home because they chose a college major that you didn't support. That's petty AF.

@soigomaa Anyone can make fallacious reductive arguments. However, only a feminist would reduce men to a paycheck, bodyguard, therapist, chef, cleaner, etc. and think it shows respect for their partner & superiority over women who view relationships holistically. Men don't seek a roommate

Feminists actually respect men more than pick me tradwives' do. Tradwives reduce you to a paycheck and a bodyguard. They want a tool, not a partner. Feminists demand more from you because they know you're capable of more. They want emotional intelligence, shared responsibilities, and an authentic human being, not a 'provider' robot. Stop confusing 'submissiveness' with respect. Feminism is actually the one wanting to share the weight of the world with you. Let that sink in.

@martinsjoh29221 @mr06ford @ButlersRanger Brain drain. Many of Canada's post secondary educated high earners emigrate, so they aren't taxed to death. There is very little incentive to make money in this country. Perhaps you should feel bad that the people who prop up the welfare you rely on are leaving in droves

Life in Canada is so depressing. I take home 57% of my wage after income tax, before sales taxes and other taxes. I make a wage in roughly the 95th percentile of incomes in my province, and if I don’t want to live in a shoebox, my wife needs to work rather than raise our two little kids. All to provide lavish benefits to the thousands and thousands of unproductive takers, who vote themselves an ever larger share of a shrinking economic pie. It’s bleak

Americans… this is a good faith question. I’m not baiting or trolling. Why are you so scared of condos and walkable cities? Does not having to drive for your groceries freak you out? What about it makes you uncomfortable? Please be honest.

Too many boomers have this really toxic assumption that young people are unable to afford a house because they’re lazy and don’t work hard. Most young people I know are working full time specialised jobs, having the majority of their salary swallowed by renting (despite it being a flatshare) taxes and cost of living. It’s almost impossible for young people nowadays, without the help of their family, to afford a house. And then they get blamed for having a Netflix subscription or getting the odd takeaway as if saving that £300 a year would let them afford a £20,000 deposit.

So many replies are “it’s not the end of the world if he gets the wrong kind of milk” and that’s why I need to re-iterate: men can avoid having these problems at all if they treat their home life as seriously as they treat their jobs. They’d never check in 10x with their boss on one simple task. They would know how things are done and not have to constantly ask. Or, they would be fired.

@0ng__o @g_lamarche @GamingNaner @hell_line0 Roughly 1% of men commit crimes. A point of a percentage of men hold power worldwide. You use a pretty large brush for miniscule parts of the population. I'd make racial claims with a stronger foundation than your gendered ones.

I will say what my male university professor told us: "Theres a large gap of educated women vs men, this causes insecurity when the -dominant- role model becomes uneducated or loses credibility, thus they must resort to other control tactics such as oppression in order to maintain their superior role within a pairing."
