@PolitVulpes @sawaya_nicolas Your basis is devoid of historical context. The have unequivocally stated their territorial goals in clear terms many times, acted upon them before there was resistance, and have the map on the uniform. You can believe otherwise or you can believe what they have said and done.

The truth is that many thoughtful Lebanese commentators advocating for the Lebanese negotiation track w/ Israel while calling for Hizballah's disarmament are (inadvertently, unintentionally, unwittingly), advocating for Israeli occupation / subjugation of Lebanon in one form or another. That's not that group's intent. It's not their desire. But it's hard to see that approach leading to anything but that result, regardless of desire or intent. (note that there is a separate group of Lebanese, much smaller in numbers, who genuinely want Lebanon to be under Israeli tutelage - think of the Antoun Sehnaouis of Lebanon).

Iran’s regime hangs democracy activists, burns protesters, shoots women for removing hijabs, and exports terror into Canadian communities. Liberals looked at that regime and with its deafening silence at the UN said: same side. Then they denied it.

You speak of the Army securing the country, of Lebanon's sovereign rights and borders. Are these words simply to disguise your true colours and alignment with occupier? Words mean nothing, actions matter. Disgraceful. @LBpresidency @nawafsalam @YoussefRaggi

Apocalyptic images released by Israeli media of the town of Aitaroun, which they are illegally occupying. They are burning homes and destroying civilian infrastructure. Both are war crimes.

@YoussefRaggi @SenatorWong Since the last ceasefire you have not pursued the removal of Israeli occupation and actions in the South, blocking of Army deployment to the border, and demanded stopping the daily attacks. I would love for you will act in Lebanon's interest vs. mere words. Prove the talk Mr FM.

I received a phone call from @SenatorWong, Australia’s Foreign Minister, during which she reaffirmed her country’s full support for the steps being undertaken by the Lebanese Government to extend its sovereignty over all its territory. She also stressed the importance of restoring stability and security, and expressed Australia’s readiness to provide the necessary humanitarian assistance. For my part, I thanked her for the support and affirmed that Lebanon was drawn into a war it did not choose. I also stressed that the Government remains committed to reclaiming the decision over war and peace and to asserting its sovereignty over the entirety of Lebanese territory. I further expressed our hope that the negotiating track will lead to the recovery of occupied lands and Israel’s withdrawal.

🟡**Statement issued by Hezbollah:** To our dear people of the resistance, With the announcement of the ceasefire, and in the face of a treacherous enemy that has a history of violating pledges and agreements, we call on you to remain patient and not to head toward the targeted areas in the South, the Bekaa, and the southern suburbs of Beirut until the course of events becomes fully clear. We understand the depth of your longing to return to your villages and homes, and we appreciate your patience and steadfastness that you have shown to the entire world, but we urge you, out of concern for your safety and your precious lives, to remain patient and endure. God willing, you will return to your villages with your heads held high, honored as you have always been.

‼️ Same ‘ceasefire.’ Same war. So let’s be clear. Iran was pushing for a broader deal, a full end to hostilities, withdrawal, & prisoner arrangements. Lebanon’s leadership rejected that path, insisting they were capable of negotiating on their own. And what did that produce? A 10-day “ceasefire” where Israeli forces remain, strikes continue, & nothing is actually resolved, a return to the post–November 2024 status quo. Israeli forces stay in Lebanon, with the freedom to strike at will. The same model, the same violations, just rebranded. In other words: nothing resolved, everything deferred. The only difference this time is that Hezbollah will not sit back. Any breach will be met with fire. But at least Lebanon’s president got his one-on-one with Trump. Bravo.

@MarioNawfal Unbelievably shallow statement devoid of history or context. Lebanese decision-making requires consensus or is hallow - the multi-confessional system requires this reality. When a puppet government is summoned by the puppet master, they are not speaking for themselves.

🇱🇧🇺🇸🇮🇱 Lebanon showed up to talks in Washington and did something it hasn't done in decades: spoke for itself. For years, Hezbollah has operated as a state within a state, fighting wars on Iran's behalf while the Lebanese government watched from the sidelines. Lebanon's foreign policy wasn't really Lebanese, it was Tehran's. That's what made this week unusual. By sitting across from Israeli and American officials, the Lebanese government was sending a message: we speak for Lebanon, not Hezbollah. No ceasefire came out of it, no peace deal, but that wasn't really the point. The point was the separation. Lebanon is signaling it wants out of Iran's orbit, that its future gets decided in its own institutions, not in Tehran. Hezbollah rejected the talks entirely, which tells you everything. A process that sidelines their military role is a process that threatens their existence. Source: Now Lebanon

🇮🇱🇱🇧 Israel has repeated an "urgent" evacuation warning for southern Lebanon, telling residents to move north of the Zahrani River immediately as airstrikes continue. Hundreds were killed in a wave of Israeli strikes last week. A ceasefire is looking less and less likely.

Documentary Evidence: Video Capturing the Targeted Crime Against Paramedics in Mayfadoun Following the statement issued by the Ministry of Public Health yesterday regarding the massacre targeting emergency medical teams in the town of Mayfadoun, the Ministry is releasing this video—captured by the cameras of the Nabatieh Ambulance Association—which documents the brutal moments of this barbaric assault. The footage clearly demonstrates: Deliberate Targeting: The intentional strike on ambulance crews in three consecutive waves. Defiance of International Law: A total disregard for all international treaties and norms that grant special protection to medical personnel. Obstruction of Rescue: The enemy's persistence in blocking life-saving operations and targeting those attempting to evacuate the wounded and deceased.
courtneybonneauimages@cbonneauimages

It was a triple-tap Israeli strike. A statement from the Lebanese Ministry of Health: *A Flagrant Crime Against Paramedics in Mayfadoun* The Public Health Emergency Operations Center of the Ministry of Public Health issued a statement announcing that the Israeli enemy targeted paramedic teams in the town of Mayfadoun, Nabatieh District, three consecutive times. This resulted in the martyrdom of three paramedics and the injury of six others, while one paramedic remains missing. *The Details:* A paramedic team from the Health Association was targeted while attempting to rescue injured individuals, leading to the martyrdom of one paramedic; the second remains missing. When a second Health Association ambulance headed to the site to rescue the paramedics, it was targeted, resulting in the injury of three paramedics. In a third rescue attempt, two ambulances belonging to the Al-Risala Association and the Nabatieh Ambulance Service headed to the location. They were also targeted, resulting in the martyrdom of two paramedics and the injury of three others. The Ministry of Public Health strongly condemns this flagrant crime, which reflects the Israeli enemy's determination to prevent paramedics from performing their life-saving work by any means. Paramedics have become direct targets, pursued relentlessly in a blatant violation that confirms a total disregard for all norms and principles established by International Humanitarian Law. The Ministry appeals to international humanitarian organizations to take action to end this dangerous violation of the right of the wounded to be rescued and the right of paramedics to be protected, in order to safeguard the human conscience and the prestige of international laws.

The first time I was flying to Beirut, the desk officer at London Heathrow asked before checking us in, “have you been to Israel?” We had rehearsed the answer to this question before. But Winston can't lie, so he said yes. I gave him the dirty look. There goes our vacation! "Well, you don't have the stamp on your passports so just make sure you tell the officer in Beirut that you haven't," she intoned. I was stressed out for the next 5 hours, and even more so when we had to face the border officer who, by the grace of God, did not ask us THE question (even though he took our passports to a secondary office for extra checks). Spending time in Beirut, you realize that it's the same Mediterranean light that bathes Tel Aviv; the sea is the same shade of shimmering blue because... well, it's the same sea. In both places, young people spill out of clubs at sunrise, the bass still thumping from rooftops that overlook the same ancient coastline. Both cities pulse with the same Levantine hunger for life: the clink of arak glasses, endless plates of hummus swirled with olive oil, the sudden eruption of dabke or house music that pulls strangers into a circle. Parties start on the rooftops of Gemmayze in Beirut and tumble down into Mar Mikhael’s narrow alleys; in Tel Aviv they begin on the sand at Gordon Beach and migrate to the warehouses of the Florentin district. These are both stylish people who love life, and who love to party. The energy is truly infectious. The accents may differ but something about this weird combination along with a deep sense of rootedness in community and the extended family really underscore how similar they were. And yet, there's been a wall between these two peoples. There are no flights stitching the 45 min hop across the water. No commercial trucks rumbling between the ports. Lebanese law forbids its citizens - inside the country or in the diaspora - from so much as speaking to an Israeli, a rule so absolute that some Lebanese friends of mine who live in Europe still glance over their shoulders before typing a reply to any Israeli even outside the country, whether for business or pleasure. I spent evenings in Beirut listening to Lebanese friends speak of Israelis not as the enemy but as people caught in the same endless loop of fear and longing. Decades of Hezbollah’s shadow have hollowed out parts of Lebanon, turning the south into a garrison and the economy into a ruin. Yet in the cafés of Achrafieh and the mountain villages above the city you hear it more and more: a quiet, exhausted recognition that the real hostage-takers are not across the border but inside it. I keep imagining the day the question at Beirut airport changes. I keep picturing the first flight from Rafic Harari to Ben Gurion. One day the music will be louder than the fear. One day the Lebanese and the Israelis will throw the party the rest of the world has been waiting for. I hope this is the first step:
