An important pointer for the make up of the French Parliament and the next Presidential elections…. **within** the left coalition it is a doubling of moderate Parti Socialiste MPs which is driving the rise of the left coalition. Melenchon hasn’t made many gains at all.

Trump keeps signaling he wants to use military tribunals to jail political foes, something the Supreme Court now makes possible. Why aren't we talking about that? thenation.com/article/politi…

THREAD: Another point missed by the many many Westminster (& other local) media on Bristol Central is Q why ARE Labour throwing the absolute kitchen sink at it (& not as much at 4 seats around Bristol where they could beat Tories) I thought it was obvious why: the 2028 election

Here's how close the Tories came to being the third party (by seats). There are just 42 seats in England and Wales where their votes was bigger than the combined Lab/Lib Dem one. They survived because there were just enough seats where the tactical vote choice wasn't obvious.

Nassreddin 🍉 نصر الدين@Nassreddin2002

So Labour is winning a huge majority with just 35% or so of the vote The last time someone won a majority with so few votes was Blair in 2005. But his majority then was much smaller And if it's less votes than 2005, Labour wins a majority with the smallest % since at least WW2

AND I'm all for talking about Reform. It's going to be a massive part of the next parliament. But we also need to talk in the same way about the Greens, who won the same number of seats and who also pose a long term threat to Lab and Tory.

@James_BG Two problems with this, I think: 1) Absent tactical voting, Labour gets a *lower* vote share, not a higher one (see below) 2) People increasingly vote Green not just for the lolz, but because they don’t like Labour. Green vote up this year is a significant part of Lab vote down

An important sub-plot in this GE was the contrasting campaign styles of Reform and the Greens. In the end, it was a score draw.
