This Dog Has Rescued Over 100 Koalas Injured During Australia’s Devastating Bushfires. He ran into fire while others ran away. During the devastating Australian bushfires in 2020 one dog became an unexpected hero. Bear is an Australian Koolie and a member of the University of the Sunshine Coast (USC) ''Detection Dogs for Conservation'' team. Trained as a conservation detection dog this brave pup used his nose to find injured Koalas hiding in burned forests. While smoke still lingered and trees smoldered he searched tirelessly. Koalas are silent when hurt and cling high in trees making them almost impossible to spot. But this Dog could smell them from far away. Bear might not be your average rescue worker but he has excelled at the task, helping conservationists find 100 Koalas who were rescued, treated, and given a second chance at life. Well done Bear, you are a hero 🙏.
