Aren't you jealous when you see France's determination to be independent, rather than America's valet? I certainly am. mol.im/a/15670781 via @DailyMail

The decline of British values can be summed up handily with this ongoing spectacle of middle aged grifters siding with a foreign country for yuks. 'Starmer got cooked!' Our PM doesn't want young working class British men to come home in body bags from Iran. Good.
Mukhtar@I_amMukhtar

This is probably the only time that Donald Trump has reposted a Saturday Night Live clip, and it is about Keir Starmer preparing to make a phone call to him with the help of David Lammy.

Nye Bevan argued that the lack of legal limits on the Parliament gave it 'a revolutionary quality'. A sentiment once widely shared, understood, cherished in the Labour Party. Now, if the power of parliamentary sovereignty is recognised, more likely to be feared than celebrated.

As another Australian politician said of their Labor Party conference: "You used to get the cream of the working class at these events. Now it's the dregs of the middle class."
Madeline Grant@Madz_Grant

If you want to see the best and worst of the Commons, watch Catherine West's snippy response to Geoffrey Cox. Disoriented by a rare display of brilliance in the Commons, she can only call him patronising (inevitably, before reading off a sheet) and her colleagues can only jeer

Remarkable indeed. Proud of Charlotte Nichols for speaking out. For her reprimand of @DavidLammy and @sarahsackman. Ministers have weaponised victims in all of this. What a state we are in. We should all be saddened by what we have allowed @Keir_Starmer needs to read the speech.

Labour MP Charlotte Nichols bravely revealed in parliament the story of her PTSD—that is what a remarkable speech looks like, writes @prospect_clark prospectmagazine.co.uk/politics/72705…

I mean it seems perfectly reasonable that a trade union leader might just expect the Labour Party (which was founded by trade unions) to stand up for workers rights. Doesn’t it? 🤷🏼‍♂️

Unite has made it clear that the actions of Labour against the Birmingham bin workers will not continue to be tolerated. @unitetheunion members are coming to the end of the line as far @UKLabour is concerned. newstatesman.com/politics/uk-po…

Give it a rest. I did the right thing. I have a rebel on the public bill committee. We didn’t quite have the numbers to defeat it Tuesday but we do now and will be able to amend it out of the Bill. I don’t need a lecture from you, Grumpy. I do what’s right and fear no one.

I'm so disappointed in Labour. Unable to break out of the neoliberal mindset that EU membership constitutionalised. The government lacks so much imagination. It cannot conceive an economic policy that diverges from seeing liberal trade policies as somehow the vehicle of salvation

Exclusive Rachel Reeves steps up criticism of Brexit as she calls for closer alignment with the Single Market “Brexit has not been good for our country, for growth, for prices in the shop. "It’s almost ten years since we voted Leave. That ship has sailed but there’s an awful lot we can do to improve our trading relations. Where that requires alignment in our national interest, we should absolutely align.” Reeves says she recently met a supermarket boss and the head of a major conglomerate and both argued that Brexit has caused significant damage. “These are two huge businesses saying it’s difficult for us and it pushes up prices and costs, but for small businesses it is really challenging.” Asked to choose between President Trump and Ursula von der Leyen, the head of the European Commission, she does not hesitate. “Ursula von der Leyen,” she says. “I believe our future is closely intertwined with that of Europe.” She highlights the Erasmus student exchange programme — the UK will rejoin next year, but Reeves says it was lost to a “generation of our children” — and says she wants an “ambitious” youth mobility scheme which will enable young people from the EU to live and work in the UK and vice versa She refuses to say whether there will be a cap on numbers, describing it as a “live negotiation”, but insists it will not represent a “return to free movement” thetimes.com/uk/politics/ar…

Jeez. Most people would consider a 3 year prison sentence to be rather serious! It would likely destroy your family life and career. If it were you would you want guilt and possible imprisonment handed down by the state alone or shared with ordinary citizens - people just like you - who at least have some understanding of the circumstances of your life. What is planned is the undermining and restriction of a fundamental cornerstone of our democracy. That was never mentioned in Labour’s manifesto!
Luke Akehurst@lukeakehurst

@Labanb Trial by jury isn't being ended. Just stops applying to trials that would result in sentences of under 3 years. There is no need to exaggerate what is being proposed.
