Creator spend will at some point dwarf media spend. The reliance, and borderline obsession, with platform media models is respected like Gospel when its history is... a decade? This too is a fad - and will pass. Brands will in the not far future spend more on creators and influencers than they ever do on ads. Just a matter of time and maturation

X payments setting the stage for the inevitable push into social commerce. Unique timing following required ad disclosures... Every social channel is moving into commerce enablement. And all will find traction at some point. And even the shopping channels, are merging with social features: Amazon create, Ulta + Sephora native affiliate, Walmart dot com... Still in the first inning of it all!

@CoryOnBrand Real Q is how they enforce. Real clippers printing on TikTok shop are all overseas for the non-brand one runs (which would be compliant). And will the platforms actually crack down? I doubt it, as much as I’d like it to go away.

Isn't 'clipping' on the verge of death, given that it's about to be ruled undisclosed endorsements? Pretty sure the FTC is on the verge of cracking down on this and if they do it totally destroys the viability of clipping imo

I hate creator agencies more than anything. For example: we have one creator we really like. We want to work with them more in depth, and actually give them a sizable retainer contract. AND THE AGENCY SAID WE ARE NOT EVEN ALLOWED TO TALK TO THE CREATOR. WHAT?!?!?!!?!?!?!

🚨 Instagram affiliate is here! 🚨 Instagram is (again) making their push into social commerce. Creators can now tag products across the entire Instagram Shop catalog and earn commission in platform on all conversions. Instagram’s shop pushes have failed in the past for one reason: They didn’t enable (easily) the creator side. Their product integration and catalog infrastructure is way easier than TikTok, but none of that matters if the demand generation isn’t there. Rather than tell you what to do, I’ll tell you exactly what we’re doing across our brand partners: 1) Assess PMF Gauging product-market fit on every brand’s IG followers, active creators on IG today, and product category. Like TikTok Shop, it won’t be a perfect fit for everyone. 2) Creator Migration The easiest path to momentum is re-upping with current TikTok creators to also push in Instagram. Even if their following isn’t high on IG, I need data right now more than I need results. (The IG -> TT migration will be way bigger… TT team plz don’t hate me 🙏) 3) Stupid-Proof Pilot One product. One creative angle. 10ish creators. I’d rather run tiny but quick pilots to capture as much insight as possible. No point in having a 3-month strategy, everything should be 2-week sprints. 4) Meta Ads Insights We’re usually the team feeding TT insights for Meta teams with bigger spend. I am going to be a nuisance to our Meta ad partners learning as much as I can about their IG conversion funnels. — What say you?

Supplement category got crushed in Q1. Only 15% QoQ growth. My theory is two fold: 1) Supplement margin profile is so good that the high commissions attract any new dweeb creator who doesn’t think about audience fit. 2) The fake nurse scrubs and “father is a top neurosurgeon in the northeast” bullshit is over. Supplement creators are going to back to what they’ve always been: - science nerds - jacked dudes

Goli is considered one of the OG’s of TikTok Shop. Launched the original creator contest with insane prizes, lost tons of money on tiktok ads to drive spillover to retail, hosted arguably the best creator event (Goli Gala) with some of the top creators in the country… Despite all that they’re still stuck at $3 mil/month while brands that got on TTS more recently like Shark are hitting $18 mil/month (6X the sales) in less than a year Just goes to show that creators are extremely important but product and product-channel fit trumps all
