@alexkehr @figma I wanted a very specific arrangement with these particular items and wanted everything to scale properly for all device sizes. I can see how you can prompt to get there but much easier to just design visually and then export the artifacts.

Update: I’m seeing a noticeable slowdown with App Store reviews. Last year, turnarounds were reliably <24 hours. Last week, it took 36–48 hours per submission. Vibecoded apps may be overwhelming queues, but I also get the sense reviewers are being more thorough with new apps now. The rejections I hit still felt fair and straightforward to address. But they're taking their time and catching nits they had previously overlooked. It's worth being extra prepared with submissions right now. You're more likely to get rejected, and each rejection is significantly more costly. On balance, you should still be fine as long as you're being a good platform citizen and not shipping slop.

Best of luck to the good people over at App Store review dealing with this. App Store review gets a bad rep from a few horror stories or big names applying public pressure to get the rules changed in their favor. But the reviewers are generally well-meaning people making sure everyone has a safe and positive experience on the platform. I've always found App Store review to be fair and professional. Rejections are usually reasonable and they make it clear how to address. Once in a while you'll hit a quirky compliance issue (e.g. having to put your legal links somewhere specific) but honestly it's pretty minimal vs any other bureaucratic process you'll deal with in life. I haven't seen any noticeable slowdowns either. Curious if that holds this year. Anyway, sending them positive vibes during these unprecedented times.

Vibe coding has unleashed a torrent of new iOS apps in the app store. After basically zero growth for the past three years, new app releases surged 60% yoy in December (and 24% on a trailing twelve month basis). Charts of the Week: a16z.news/p/charts-of-th…

I wouldn’t question Mr. Bieber’s product sense. Remember his critique of the Messages send button? He composed it one-handed on the move thanks to the superior ergonomics of the bump case. The artist’s role in society is to perceive what others fail to see. Cultivate taste.

iOS 26 still has severe usability issues and some of the design choices in the first party apps are... interesting. But from a developer's perspective it's been an absolute delight. I used to avoid using system UI components as much as possible because they were ugly and made your app look cheap. Now look at this. It's not so much about how Liquid Glass looks but what it unlocks. All UI elements float and adapt to content below so all your screens can be fully edge-to-edge out of the box. We used to do all kinds of extra polish work to make nav bars scroll away (like in this app) and make buttons float with drop shadows, gradient backdrops, added scroll insets etc. Now we can just use the default toolbars and let the content shine. Premium feel with zero extra work. I love it.

So during the holidays, a friend and I were talking iPhone Air and she said she did not get the new iPhone because Apple removed Portrait Mode. I said no. Hold on. I opened the camera app and said "Oh I see what you mean" 🤦‍♂️
