President Trump is in the second year of his second term and has not acted as you suggest - the presidency will be contested again in 2028. Even if the UK were to consider an alternative CASD missile system knowing UK MOD procurement how long would that process take at what cost?

I think we ought to turn this into a World War II epic film in black-and-white: The Voyage of the Dragon. It would be a slow motion chronicle of a complex endeavour, complete with equalities impact assessments etc, ending with arrival in Cyprus some weeks after the war is over.

Britain’s bases in Cyprus felt like the safest place on earth when I was growing up there. Not any more.

The real question is are we preparing a task force for the straits of Hormuz. PoW CSG could do that but we need allies and to ensure the North Atlantic is covered.
