The Clearest Sign You Have Lost God. It is not when you have fallen into a grave sin. It is not when you have doubted. And it is not even when you no longer feel grace. The most reliable sign that you have lost God is when your heart has become cold and indifferent to the pain of another.  You may perform every ritual perfectly, but if you can calmly walk past someone’s tears, or remain unmoved by the loneliness of your neighbour-if there is no living, active compassion in your heart-know that you are infinitely far from Christ.  For God is Love. And the path to Him lies only through a compassionate heart.

This piece of information changed everything about the approach to my own birth with my second child, which was natural, at home, undisturbed, and worlds less painful and traumatic than my first labor experience- an unprepared homebirth transfer ending in an unnecessary birth-by-knife. Knowing that my unborn baby could likely feel everything I felt was the motivation I needed to choose one of the hardest things for a mother to choose in labor, which was confronting my fears and embracing peace in the presence of pain. Some may scoff, but I can’t deny God bringing me to the understanding that according to His perfect design of the female body, the breath, the voice, prayer, movement, and trust are pivotal tools to help us achieve this peace and ability to move through the most intense and painful parts of child bearing. Not circumventing pain, but embracing its productive and crucial role in the entire process. Ultimately though, LOVE for my child and the will to make it as peaceful a process for her as possible (and by proxy, me) was inevitably what gave me the mental strength to see it all through. I believe this is a divine function that God was very intentional about when He made woman. That love is a requirement for childbearing. Birth is first and foremost, a spiritual and relational event. Everything else flows from this. Understanding that is a foundational first step in preparing for a successfully undisturbed, physiologic, birth outside of the system.

I just met with a number of orthodox church leaders (not just russian orthodox) that are requesting help because the government of Ukraine is jailing Christians for preaching their faith. They asked you your help and you do this? Do you really think taxpayer dollars should be going towards the persecution of Christians?
