@KaguraShiba @SpectaDoomTerr7 We need to invent an app that is like doordash but it's for throwing rocks at internet users. I think that's the only way people will ever learn how to behave.

@DogTobacco @theabibyama Ya that's why I think the whole age-gating the internet thing is misguided. Even if we get rid of the 14 year olds, we still have the unemployed on here. We need to employment gate the internet. Get rid of both.

@theabibyama Seem like reasonable prices to me, probably works out to way less than what I make per hour at my bullshit job that doesn't produce anything of value for anyone. Too many people on Twitter are 14 years old and/or unemployed, so they think $250 is a lot for several hours of work.

I Just remembered I have like 150 free games on Epic and i havent played a single fucking one. I've had the account for a few years now and just log in once a month and hit accept. How cursed is your platform if 150 free games can't even steal an hour of a user's time?

@RoboDaily @JamesLucasIT You're joking but you're actually right. Mecha animators in the 80's were mostly engineering school grads and dropouts. Those dudes were trained to hand draw mechanical blueprints. Engineers don't learn that stuff anymore because CAD/CAM is ubiquitous.

My father-in-law is an old-school animator. He is insanely gifted. We were watching this 1987 MADOX-01 cockpit scene together and I asked him what it would cost to animate something like this today with all our fancy computers. I will never forget his answer… “We can’t, we don’t know how to do it.”

@MongoReloaded @lordvictor That's because classically trained draftsmen no longer exist thanks to CAD/CAM. The guy who animated this was trained to draw engineering blueprints by hand. The guy who animates the modern equivalent learned to draw engineering blueprints on a computer.

You see, the thing about animation is that literally anything that could be imagined could be animated. There's nothing special about this being made in 1987. In fact it's more likely to have been made then back when people gave a shit about making cool animation.

@sealpenguin4 @LumpyTheCook The state of the world today breaks Rainbow because history did not end and all the member nations of Rainbow currently hate each other. Ghost Recon would be dope as hell though. So would HAWX. A modern HAWX would be amazing.

@LumpyTheCook Could you imagine old style Tom Clancy games being made today with everything happening around the world? Ghost Recon with drones. Weirdly enough, the Helldivers strategy of 100,000 planes, artillery, and long range weapons accompanying just 4 soldiers was surprisingly accurate.

There's Andy and Neil. Neil is particular has some controversial stances that are informed by his own experiences but he brings interesting perspectives as a result of those experiences. Like this post here actually poses a really interesting question in regards to localization. When is "Japaneseness" a product of authorial intent and when is it a product of circumstance and isn't inline with the author's intent?

@deadhardware I think people outside feel more fulfilled but even then you get rare examples where even some people who are in Japan like Katrina and Zac Davidson have that bias. Again I fully think there are those localizers that truly care and exist. They just aren’t on social media.

Translation discourse on this app will never improve. this is because both pro and anti localizers don’t bring up any academic theory of language. I critique localizations very often but both sides oversimplify it. In This thread I’ll go over my thoughts 🧵
江市コム@Eshtarwind

There will INEVITABLY, ALWAYS be a loss in translation, you CANNOT translate something completely the same and wish for it to have the same nuance or meanings or "linguistic experience" as the source language. Haters need to understand this It is just IMPOSSIBLE.

I think anime in general ends up getting the short end of the stick. Low-paying quick turnaround gig work. The people don't care because none of these jobs "matter". The people who are passionate about their craft on this website are all working in videogames and I don't think that's a coincidence. These are the dudes who are living in Japan, working as full time employees of a studio, in the studio with the authors and developers of the games they're working on. The dream gigs for the people who really care about their work.

I care about anime deeply and I think it deserves better to have more complex conversations about this especially as it becomes more popular in western culture then it’s ever been. And western fans are divided. Thank you for reading

@heisei_ramen Popular culture would require a popular and the modern internet's infinite algorithmic siloing has done a good job of ensuring that there will never be such a thing as popular again. The culture has balkanized beyond repair.

And we've already seen where this eventually goes because it's already happened to the American comicbook industry. The writer of the new Spiderman book is begging people on social media to actually buy the book instead of just talking about it on social media because it may not make it to issue #6. If you told someone in the year 2000 that a Spiderman book wouldn't make it to issue #6 they'd look at you like you sprouted a second head. But this exactly what happens when an industry prioritizes social media yappers over the actual customers.

There’s one thing we need to clarify about the larping/poser epidemic. I used to be dirt poor and could only watch games that I couldn’t emulate. You want to know the difference? I actually watched the full games and all the side content. People watch Tiktok edits instead now

It really is telling how defensive accounts get when you acknowledge the basic fact that you should really play the games to the franchise you say you like. No wonder sales fall off a cliff for companies now.
lightning_kf 🇧🇧@lightning_kf

This whole Resident Evil discourse is exposing one thing to me: there are way too many tourists in there that think watching videos of gameplay is enough to make you a fan and they hate being challenged by actual ones. Face facts: unless you PLAY THE GAMES, you're NOT a fan.

@LavenderGhast And it the problem isn't unique to videogames. The writer of the new Spiderman is BEGGING comicbook "fans" to buy a comicbook for the first time in their lives. @RussellCLehman @SandyofCthulhu Ya I've had to explain that to someone before. "I'm shooting the equivalent of an entire box of .25, simultaneously, into a grouping the size of my hand. The coroner is going to be putting the phrase 'macerated heart' in his report if I hit someone in the chest with it."

Probably because people think it doesn't have enough "knock down power". I had a guy say the other day he wouldn't recommend anything less than 338 Lapua Mag for Elk. I asked him if he was trying to hunt the elk at 1200 yards and if he was expecting them to be wearing level four plates. He got pretty upset at me actually when I said that a 270 Win would get the job done inside 500 yards if you know how to shoot.

Whoever said that has never fired a shotgun. I hate it in a movie when someone fires a shotgun 20-30 feet away and multiple bad guys go flying, or a whole wall of the house is filled with pellet squibs. If the guy's inside your house, you have to point it directly at him. He's too close for the spread to have much effect. On the other hand, the shotgun has the major advantages that it won't penetrate your wall and hit your neighbor and it will do crippling/killing damage to the loser who invaded your house.
