Breaking my Twitter silence because @junyer has passed away, and this is the site where he was most active. I know we had at least a few followers in common. There is a public memorial page of sorts at github.com/google/re2/iss….

@apenwarr @networkservice If only the other flavour of paper-eating device would follow suit! My new scanner — HP, but that seems to be the least worst option here currently — brought me hours of pain (and a good amount of Ghidra practice...) before I got anything reasonable out of it.

@networkservice Best part is the vendor driver ecosystem has devolved so far that we all gave up and new printers follow the AirPrint standard where we just send a pdf over ipp +mdns, no driver required. It’s both depressing and inspiring at once.

@apenwarr I swear by my Oki Microline — dot-matrix + tractor-feed forever! — though $partner thinks I am mad. (But our old Brother HL-1110 is also acceptable, I guess.)

@FelixCLC_ @junyer "interesting modifications" should here be read as "addition of exciting new test vectors" — given that CVE-2024-3094 is rather on my (and I suspect junyer's) mind this weekend.

Would now be a good time to ask who's signing up to rewrite BLAS and LAPACK in Rust for free and, moreover, to maintain and support said projects in perpetuity for free?

I'd personally argue that Assembly is a very much Dynamic Language. Maybe even more dynamic than JavaScript.
wbrian@dubya_brian

@PeterPlucinski @tsoding Dynamic languages are an abstraction, so you're actually peeling back a layer of abstraction by using typescript.

oh great, and Guile's import of `(chibi match)' as `(ice-9 match)' carefully patches the non-positional extension out (but I can't see any rationale for why ... presumably because it overloads `@'?)

ye gods, the Wright-Cartwright-Shinn `match' term's `$' operator is **positional** on record types? auugh!

so far, most of my Org-mode muscle memory is doing OK ... except my Emacs config has changed enough that I'm now running into horrible bugs in Org-mode that I can't work around

hmm... which would be easier: (re-)learning Org-mode, or (re-)implementing Todoist?

I've used Todoist for many years, and am very familiar with its quirks and foibles ... it's truly excruciating to not be able to use it at work :-(

Sigh, I have killed another audio interface by mulching a connector ... nothing quite like ripping the traces off a PCB to ruin one's fun.

thought: has anyone recompiled the Java VM to WebAssembly so we can have Java applets back?

Australian legislation: amendments are just patches, explanatory memoranda are just commit messages.

having to hunt around for how and why Australian legislation has changed is an absolute pain ... wish this stuff was done such that you could just use some sort of `blame' mechanism.
