@DrLKVaughan Given that NHS.net runs on O365, this seems incredibly wasteful. The register article in your replies suggests that this is just a pause while the tendering happens. Then given the massive costs associated with moving we carry on with MS anyway?

Here is a nice example of 'enshittification' in the NHS. Apparently our Trust is going to stop paying for Office licenses coz £££. Everyone will have to use Teams for everything coz free. Teams won't open >1 spreadsheet at same time. All our ward managers worried. 1/

@Mause_me @duckdb Thanks! Appreciate your replying. I think I just need to be a little more disciplined about closing my connections. It's a different concept to working with in memory tables.

@jasonpott @duckdb I can't speak to R directly, but yes you should close the database at the end of the session to ensure everything is written to disk (if you're not using an in memory database). A database you've written to disk can be reopened in a new session

Seen lot's of good things about @duckdb. I'm struggling to find information about best practices in R. Unclear whether I should close it down at the end of a session? Can databases be maintained between sessions? The tutorials I've seen jump into analysis & miss out housekeeping.

Does anyone else called Therese in the UK born of British parents use diacritics, or is this a unique pretention of Ms Coffey? I've met several British-born people called Therese. I've never met a British-born Thérèse.
