‘They know that if the Cubans are successful of their example in being able to provide, as a poor country, the best medical care in the third world…it’s a very bad example for the United States.
There is a large mass of people in the US who can look to Cuba and say ‘wow if they can do it on a per capita income of $2K—2.5K, where ours is $22,500 a year, what’s wrong with our system? Maybe we ought to consider an alternative.’ That’s why Sandinista Nicaragua had to be destroyed, that’s why Grenada had to be destroyed.
Because any movement that comes to power with the idea of providing for all the people and escaping the control of the US and its economy, that is bad news for the United States and among the upper circles of power and influence.’

The more I hear from this guy the more I stand by my original assessment. The throughline of his entire oeuvre is glazing and stoking political violence. Which makes sense because he’s hostile to liberal democracy and the mutual toleration it encourages.

France made this wastefulness illegal cause it’s cruel and only causes more waste issues. Any food market or restaurant over 400 square meters has to donate all their good unsold food to charities and are fined if they do anything like this. That law should be applied everywhere

Look, the dumbest thing about all this is that I didn’t and don’t care about Piker. Piker never comes up in focus groups with voters as someone they’re following—the way a Rogan or Tucker or Candance does. I don’t think he’s singularly making an impact on politics in any way commensurate with the attention he’s getting. But I care about Tim. I agreed with @Timodc’s original point that using Piker as a litmus test is dumb. Calling up Jon Ossoff to ask what he thinks about Piker is dumb. It is an unnecessary distraction. But I felt like Tim’s discussion of Piker was too dismissive of some of Pikers more toxic positions. And that was the part I wanted to react to. There’s nothing I can do about the fact that the internet distortion field has overtaken the whole thing. And that people are debating my views in a way that is totally divorced from my actual, very-well documented views. That’s just part of what happens when doing this work. The only thing I can do is keep saying what I actually believe. And what I hear voters saying they believe. But politicians can reach voters who are angry about the Iran war and even about America’s relationship to Israel without going on the stream of a guy who said America deserved 9/11. But, it’s also no doubt true that he’s being elevated by the whole conversation and the right answer to questions about him should probably be “Piker, who?” Because that’s what most voters would say if you asked them.

This cannot be repeated enough. The claim that US sanctions only impact the Cuban government is a *blatant lie*.
When I was a grad student in the US, I sent $10 to another student for buying me a drink. My Venmo note included the word "Cuba." My account was instantly restricted.
No money left the United States or entered Cuba. Two friends shared a beer at a university and talked about Cuba. And found their Venmo restricted.
Now imagine what this means at scale. This is how the US effectively isolates an entire country from the global financial system. Any and all transactions — medicines, food, technology, tourism, shipping, insurance for shipping — everything is subject to sanctions. No company will risk expulsion from the US system.
Even before the monstrous fuel blockade, US sanctions had already cut the island off from the world.

Gavin Newsom isn’t going to lead an anti-trans pogrom in 2028 for the same reason a Republican governor just vetoed a bathroom bill in New Hampshire: rounding up trans people is heinously unpopular with anybody remotely well-adjusted.

When asked if he’d vote for Gavin Newsom or JD Vance for president, Hasan says he’d vote 3rd party.
This proves Hasan doesn’t care about ANY of the marginalized groups he pretends to support. All he cares about is taking money from them so he can buy more outfits for stream.
