🚨BREAKING Senior sources at Newcastle United are mystified by claims Arsenal have opened club to club talks over the signing of Bruno Guimaraes. They’ve not heard from anyone involved about a potential deal for more than a week. Newcastle’s stance remains the same and they will not lower their valuation. They do not welcome a bid and will inform Arsenal of their stance if they try to open club to club talks. They may well try to do so but nothing has changed at 1214 on Tuesday #nufc #arsenal

Leeds United name squad for USA. Largie Ramazani one of four notable absentees. Sources in Spain say Valencia are keen to bring him back, no agreement yet. World Cup quarter-finalist Okafor has been given an extended post-tournament break. #lufc yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/sport/football…

I think my wife loves her horse more than me. The horse has an itchy arse so she rubs special oils into it every night. I told her I've got an itchy arse but she told me to go fuck myself

@Baddiel He tried to go to 3-5-3 to counter the Argentine subs who took control of the wings after the goal. It was somehow not well communicated and we lost our shape. That was the real issue. After that Tuchel tried to shore up a sinking ship.

I've now read a number of high-flying football analysts saying "no, you naive ones, it wasn't TT's subs, the team had already gone into a defensive shell straight after the goal, remember the first substitution wasn't until 72 mins" - which is true. But: a. the team are meant to play the way the manager tells them, and if they're not it's his job to make them do so and b. putting on a defender for an attacker at 72 mins just confirms, in the minds of the players, that what they need to do is defend not attack. So once again:
David Baddiel@Baddiel

The substitutions killed England here.

This should be time for reflection for England, so for what is worth let me share with you a take from someone who is not English but knows English football culture perfectly having played many years in the Premier League You might agree or disagree, but it links to what Tuchel said about the team being passive. And if there is a hint of truth in it, maybe responsability should be taken beyond the coach, and even beyond the changing room (maybe the excess of confidence entering the game, the difficulty to see problems when victories come, the abusive search for culprits, all those things that we have seen in the past are also partly to blame) Here it goes: "Guillem, I can't help repeating something I've told you before: England can never truly function as a team because they don't understand the word "solidarity" or the concept of collective football. They always freeze when the decisive moment comes. They go out of every major tournament (World Cup or Euros) in the same way: not just losing, but making a mess of it. They always freeze when the decisive moment comes. There's a historical pattern. At some point in the game they abandon each other. Every player starts looking after himself, trying to save his own skin. Today they left the goalkeeper completely exposed. They all disappeared from the game, almost as if they were trying to avoid being singled out. Can you say who was at fault for the goals? Exactly. The best thing for them is that no individual gets blamed. Collectively, they were responsible. Everyone goes home relieved that it won't all fall on John or James. That it will all fall on Tuchel. Meanwhile, Messi can hardly run, yet he spent the entire second half happily playing on the edge of the box. Enzo, too, kept finding space to shoot from the edge of the area — his trademark — until one finally went in. An absolute disaster." Should we discuss?

@NiceGuyKenny I'm just saying it's not the biggest in England's whole history since 66, but you can make a case for the men's history. That's all it needed, the specification.

@Drogg5 @GVOwlenstein @BBCSport The guy blatantly dived. You saying that should've been allowed because the ref didn't spot it? Blatent cheating like that should be re reffed. It happened earlier in the tournament. Embolo was already on a yellow so it's his own fault

@jayteelufc @GVOwlenstein @BBCSport Yeah but that’s just re-reffing the game, the rule was brought in for actual mistaken identity situations, ie booking the wrong player on the same team who committed the foul, not for this. Going to end up reviewing every decision if this continues.

Breel Embolo was distraught after becoming the first player to be sent off as a result of the new ‘mistaken identity’ law 🟥 After a VAR review, he received a second yellow card for a dive when Argentina’s Leandro Paredes was initially cautioned for a foul ❌

@BBCSport This is so out of order & speaks to the inconsistency of refereeing at this World Cup. There have been dozens & dozens of simulations & this is the only card shown for it...yet another decision in favour of @Argentina The conspiracy is beyond obvious now!

@GVOwlenstein @BBCSport Mistakes identity as in ref booked padres when it should've been embolo for the dive, not literal mistaken identity in that he booked wrong arg player

@BBCSport Re-refereeing the game now, not what VAR was meant for. We’ll end up with every decision being reviewed, absolutely ridiculous. Notice how England didn’t get the Norway goal overturned after Kane was fouled? Very strange system which is ruining the game as a spectacle

@ScrubKing @BBCSport The white man got booked for a foul, it wasn't a foul it was a dive. 'mistaken identity' is the ref booked the wrong player

@BBCSport I don’t understand how the yellow card was able to be reviewed for VAR for “mistaken identity “the foul involved the black man and a white man and the white man got booked for the opposite team. Where was the mistaken identity?
