@taipan168 Ok. Guess I’m just incredibly out of touch to think a society should debate kids being given hormones and surgery like this.

@jayzeae The trans issue is the perfect example of the sort of culture war issue that the Liberals should be leaving alone. I haven't followed it, but I don't think their position is all that much different to that of the ALP, which is fine.

I’ve asked this a few times and no reply. I’m genuinely after an answer but nobody will engage.

@joegarra61 What do you mean by that, Joe? What socially progressive views do you wish to see from the LNP?

@jayzeae @taipan168 What's your issue with trans people? They are just trying to live their lives and be themselves. Women's safe spaces can easily be breached by a cis bloke with a beard and tats, there's absolutely no need for a predator to dress as a woman. This argument is ridiculous.

If the Liberals want more votes (esp from anyone under 35) they need to look left not right - socially progressive, economically conservative

@Pedlar56230 Basically seems that way, that’s why I asked to get to the specifics. If our two choices are labor and labor that is a bit more economically savvy then we essentially have no opposition, which is never a good thing. We need discussion and debate if we want the best outcomes.

@AT140751841839 I didn’t know this was an issue. Isn’t parental leave already based on income from your employer and then goes to a default that is the same for all women regardless of income. Can see what you mean in a ‘vibe’ sense.

@jayzeae Easy one, stop demeaning high income working women. Why do they denigrate workers who send their kids to Childcare? What happened to Tony Abbotts Party that offered an actual decent paid parental leave scheme based on your actual income?

@meh8hei @joegarra61 High tolerance for all is good. I agree with you that a default position of automatically celebrating anything others believe or do is too far.

@taipan168 Just being socially progressive without a counter argument on this issue would have been disastrous for young Australians right?

@taipan168 E.g. I assume any pushback to trans comes under culture wars? Those against hormone blockers and affirmative surgery for kids and pro womens safe spaces have been vindicated by the cass report and unanimous uk supreme court ruling on the definition of a woman.

@taipan168 Isn’t pushback against at least parts of each of those issues simply pragmatic? I’m sure you’d agree that to do what you’re calling for here to its fullest and most extreme would be a disaster. Doesn’t it require a counter view to balance the end result?

@jayzeae As a former Liberal voter, I'll answer. No more culture wars nor dog whistling to the RWNJs. Promote indigenous recognition in the preamble of the Constitution. Accept climate change and put forward market-based policies to address it. Wholeheartedly embrace multiculturalism.

@BikoKonstantin1 Dual incomes became the norm which inflated prices and now a single income isn’t enough. Choice is now no kids and struggle or have kids and struggle even more.

@AvidCommentator Sorry but this list is mostly bonkers. Liberals plan for first home owners was probably equal to labor’s. Talking about cost of living being a LNP negative after Labor’s term is crazy. What personal freedoms did the LNP attack, and how is ALP pro personal freedom?

I think the Liberal Party and its supporters need to quantify some things. Is the following a "move to the left" - Focus on home ownership - Tilt balance away from property investors - Focus on family and personal freedom through financial security (aka lower cost of living, most notably housing) - Prioritize personal freedoms, not a right wing version of cancel culture - Emphasise everyone having a stake in society and taking concrete measures to defy vested interests to make it so That is all Menzies level old school Liberal politics and if folks think otherwise, I suggest a good history book and start by listening to Menzies radio addresses. And I just feel like adding, do folks think property investors liked being absolutely decimated by Chifely and Menzies, and they just took losing more than half their share of property relative to housing stock in their stride?

@TMFScottP People voted for freebies. Union members- overpaid gov projects. Add in NDIS business owners and recipients (is that most of Australia now?). The entire Labor campaign made out that the liberals were going to remove Medicare 😂 Left/ right was hardly a factor in my opinion.

Honestly, if your view is that the LNP lost because they weren't 'right' enough, you need to look again at the results. The LNP lost votes to the *left*, not the right. Realpolitik doesn't care about your ideology. #auspol

@Nadposting It’s a fundamentally flawed system when investors can deduct the the interest on the loan against their taxable income when first home buyers can’t. Especially when our retirement system is based off people owning their own home
