@gmiller This same fed pressure on emissions ruined heavy diesel engines. Cost to every industry using them has been massive. Def, dpf and egr systems all frequently fail well before service life of engine. And there is a brisk market in pre emissions vehicles and engines.

Question for car guys: Over the last few years, many car manufacturers are switching from naturally aspirated V-6 engines to turbocharged 4-cylinder engines, given federal pressures to increase MPG and decrease emissions. Many of the classic V-6s last over 200,000 miles. Many of the turbo-4s will not, given their much higher operating temperatures, pressures, and complexity. Replacing an entire car more often involves a huge 'embodied energy' cost. Question: Does this switch to smaller, 'more fuel efficient' engines actually help the environment in the long run, if we take into account the fact that the smaller engines will wear out much faster? Is this an example of 'pro-environment' federal regulations being counter-productive in the long run?

I always smile internally when I walk up to the gate and I see the passengers summing me up as their Captain. I occasionally wonder what they are really thinking, hopefully it’s confidence and not nervousness. 🤣🤣🤷‍♂️

In all my years, I’ve never heard of a farmer sell the whole corn crop at harvest, then turn around and buy grain back out of the elevator just to fill the bins. I’m at a loss for words. Help me understand.

@henrywiebe1981 2 vents doesn’t seem like enough for this for anything at all wet. What is the most you have put on and how big of a fan can you mount to it?

@iamyourfarmer @MaizeingPete I fully agree, the pickup is the better value but the fact that is that expensive seems to create air cover for the side x side at that ridiculous price

@jcraikes @MaizeingPete Except I can legally drive the pickup down the road, thru a field, or across the country and it will go 200k miles. Don’t see very many side by sides for sale with over 10-15k miles

A side by side is 30k with heat and air. Unless the interior of this thing is two 5 gallon buckets and a HS school football roster folded into a fan for the HVAC system, it’s going to be 40k+

@MaizeingPete @iamyourfarmer Seems like alot more to it than that. To your point about what the market will bear, if a basic pickup is $40K, you could argue a side x side with almost the same feature set can price right up underneath that and still get some volume. The pickup at 40 is the problem

@iamyourfarmer Because something could be cheaper ignores capitalism figuring out what the market will bear. Has anyone figured out those things are cheap from exploiting overseas cheap labor? So much for America first.

@iamyourfarmer @FieldwalkerAg @MaizeingPete And you might have noticed aus has no comparable diesel emissions standards, so light diesels are everywhere with no def in sight. Also don't think they have the other fed rules that have helped make us cars so expensive

@FieldwalkerAg @MaizeingPete When I went to Australia there was nothing I wanted more than a Hilux with an aluminum flatbed and a kangaroo bar. That’s what all the farmers drove there. Probably have to buy a cattle guard here though.

Crop Ins. is more affordable and powerful than it has ever been before. Literally everyone can (and probably should) have 95%. Corn 75%/SCO/95% ECO per acre: Pocahontas, IA -$20 Davison, SD - $32 Gibson, TN - $25 Grundy, MO - $29 Cass, ND - $25

@HawkeyeRy I’m in Ashland Ne. One of the most likely areas to get a claim. That sounds fine if you assume APH- but it isn’t that. Ok what about county trendline? Nope. County expected. What is that? An actuarial estimate of even distribution of outcomes, which for yield is meaningless.

@jcraikes Where are you from? I’ll show you the history. It’s not about betting against a county. It’s about replacing revenue when area issues occur. They are tilted in your favor.

@HawkeyeRy My margins get publicly dissected by everyone. Crop ins agents all sell the same product for the same price, yet yours are top secret and fair? I am curious why eco and sco have such a push right now. I happen to think they are crappy products- even tho I have made money on them.

@jcraikes Commission is fair. That said, if your focus as a farmer is the commission, I think you are missing the point. Not to mention none of the premium you pay goes towards the commission. Government pays that. These plans aren’t predatory - they are for your benefit.
