Since Virginia won't let voters decide, Governor @SpanbergerForVA should follow the lead of Texas, Florida, and Tennessee and just impose the new map on the state.

The real kicker is that SCOTUS ruled just last week that race cannot be a factor in drawing district maps, and that's exactly what Tennessee did: drew maps that specifically benefit whites.

Throwing away 40,000 ballots is fascism.

Based on this Virginia ruling, the Tennessee and Florida maps should both also be shot down. If not, Virginia should just pull a Tennessee and change the rules to ram it though the legislature. 🤷‍♂️

When I say the country is institutionally rigged for Republicans I’m talking about how Virginia gets their maps struck down after a two year process involving multiple legislative sessions and a statewide referendum but Tennessee can just decide not to enfranchise Memphis anymore

Uhm, maybe because it’s illegal? Federal statute 18 U.S.C. § 592 prohibits deploying “troops or armed men” to locations where elections are held, to prevent interference or intimidation. You’d think an acting Attorney General would know this.

Imagine being this dumb, this ignorant of both basic history and basic political science, and being a United States Senator.

Tennessee redrew the maps. Then passed a bill eliminating the requirement to notify voters when their polling place changes as a result. Read that sequence again slowly. New districts drawn in the wake of the VRA ruling. New polling locations that follow from those new districts. And now, no legal obligation to tell the voters in those districts where to show up. A voter who doesn’t know their polling place changed doesn’t vote. They show up at the old location, get turned away, and either don’t have time to find the right place or give up entirely. This doesn’t require anyone to be turned away at the door. The suppression happens before they ever leave the house. This is the infrastructure of disenfranchisement. Quiet, procedural, and almost invisible unless someone is paying attention and willing to say it out loud. So here is the ask. If you have a platform, a newsletter, a podcast, a group chat, a church bulletin, a social media following of any size - find out where the polling places are in the newly drawn Tennessee districts. Get that information in front of the voters who need it before they need it. The state has just told you it won’t. Every journalist covering redistricting. Every organizer with a contact list. Every Tennessean who knows their neighbors. The information voters need to cast their ballots exists. The legal requirement to deliver it just got repealed. Fill the gap. As loud and as far as you can reach.
