@hugefatloser A great reframe I’ve heard and use often is “your feelings are really but they may not necessarily be accurate.”

One of the most insane trends of the last few years is to call everyone’s feelings “valid”. People sometimes have feelings that are based on their own internal triggers and not on reality, which is their responsibility not the world’s. Tiptoeing over feelings doesn’t help anyone.

@irwinelman This is unconscionable, another failure of the government to look out for the needs of its most vulnerable citizens.

@shawdirect - you need to hire more staff. I am still on hold by phone (1hr now), got through on chat after 40min online (all while waiting on the phone line still) - only for them to tell me that I have to talk to someone on the phone to cancel my service - do better!

What stops us from speaking truth to power is not a desire for harmony. It’s a climate of fear and futility. When leaders fail to make it safe and worthwhile to be honest, we bite our tongues. Weak leaders stifle dissent and leave themselves weaker. Strong leaders welcome dissent and make themselves stronger. nytimes.com/2024/07/14/opi…

@solmamakwa Thank you for sharing Jerry’s story. The work that first responders do can has real impacts on them. It’s so important to provide supports for them to be ok as they make sure that everyone else is. Best wishes to Jerry in his journey of recovery.

When you live a status quo life, start chasing money over happiness, stop living your dream, stop doing things for yourself you will raise kids who will do the same. Are you living the type of life you would want them to live?

@hugefatloser Fave thing to do - All the time! “Tell your friends you love them, tell them a lot. Make it weird.”What’s really weird is that we can do openly talk about how we don’t like people, but we get all skeeved out when people express love and admiration. We’ve got it all backwards!

@ReadingDanger Our community legal clinic used to host ID clinics and help fill out the paperwork and fund the costs in getting new ID as well as providing an address for it to be sent to. A really necessary service for many.

Re: getting IDs. 1. It took me, an over-preparer with time, vehicle, and money *three attempts* to get an ID when I moved here last year. 2. People's possessions are very frequently stolen here, or taken by law enforcement (also stolen). That can include IDs and supporting docs.

I've had half a dozen unhoused people come into the library this week saying, timidly, that they heard they didn't need an ID to get a card. Then light up when I tell them it's true and make them a card. Word's on the street.

@hugefatloser I say this a lot. People get weirded out and often demand that I have an opinion. It’s strange.

When was the last time you said, “hey you know what? I don’t really know enough about this to have an opinion.” Instead of just making shit up to soothe your own anxiety about not knowing? Give it a shot sometime.

@DanielaJLT I would say everyone who does this important work is impacted by it. That’s why it’s so important to be talking with everyone early and throughout their careers about how to look after themselves and where to find help if/when they find themselves in a place that they need it.

I asked a table of first responders if they thought it was possible for someone to come out of a PSP (public service personnel) career without some form of an OSI - they unanimously said no! They agreed everyone will come away from that career with something. #ptsdawareness

At the vaccine clinic, where the completely unmasked staff is trying to talk everyone in attendance out of getting the vaccine. Nuts. Just nuts.
