It’s sad that we don’t have leaders in the senate who are willing to do the job they were elected to do. Cancel the recess. Replace Thune. Get the DHS funded and pass the Save America act. You used privilege with an escort at the airport while millions of Americans weren’t getting paid and others were waiting hours in line. It’s a very bad look.

We just completed a productive education and workforce roundtable in Knox County with local leaders and educators. It was great to talk about how we can build Tennessee’s future workforce. Education professionals are also fired up about keeping men out of women’s sports!

You did not terminate the filibuster. You did not get the Save America Act passed and YOU let senators go home for a 2 week paid vacation. You’re a sell-out and everyone sees it. More than 77 million Americans voted for Trump, his agenda and getting our country back on track and YOU continue to hold things up. You have continually blocked recess appointments and it’s obvious you are NOT for the Republican Party but more in the pockets of giving everyone but the American people what they want. Disgraceful.

Let’s summarize where we are after a 40+ day Democrat shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security. 1) ICE and CBP are funded, thanks to the Working Families Tax Cuts and the foresight of President Trump and Republicans in Congress. 2) After holding DHS and the American people hostage for over 40 days, Dems got ZERO restrictions that would prevent ICE and CBP agents from doing their jobs safely. 3) Due to Dem obstruction of the appropriations process, ICE and CBP will get even more funding through budget reconciliation. 4) Dems have once again established themselves as the “Open Borders, Defund the Police” party heading into an election. 5) Dem leadership has proven once again they can’t be trusted to make a deal. Which begs the question if you’re a Dem senator or one of their left-wing supporters: What was this really all about?

Senator Schumer held TSA and FEMA funding hostage for more than 40 days for no reason. Democrats’ goal was to prevent ICE from enforcing immigration law. They failed. ICE is beyond fully funded and is still removing criminal illegal aliens. Democrats’ one accomplishment: showing the entire country that Democrats care more about illegal aliens than Americans.

Passage of the Department of Homeland Security funding package brings us closer to ending the reckless and harmful shutdown of DHS that Democrats triggered when they walked away from the bipartisan funding bill for the Department. That original bill contained new safeguards and oversight to protect the American public and our law enforcement, including additional funding for body-worn cameras and deescalation training. Over the past five weeks, Republicans have made repeated attempts to reach bipartisan consensus to reopen the Department. Republicans offered proposals to expand the use of body-worn cameras; limit civil immigration enforcement in sensitive areas such as schools and hospitals; increase oversight of detention facilities; and implement visible officer identification. While Republicans worked in good faith to try to reach agreement, Democrats remained intransigent and unreasonable with their list of demands. Congressional Democrats have done real damage to the appropriations process by repeatedly forcing government shutdowns and refusing to fund entire agencies. Their refusal to fund ICE and Border Patrol leaves our borders and our country less secure and sets a precedent that they may one day come to regret. Today’s action moves us closer to ending the disastrous shutdown at the Department, which has caused chaos at our airports, made us more vulnerable to cyber and terrorist attacks, delayed disaster response to communities in need, and caused thousands of hardworking federal employees to report to work with no guarantee of when they will be paid. Moving forward, I remain committed to ensuring adequate funding to secure our borders.

@LeaderJohnThune - with all due respect, we are tired of the political theatrics. We are tired of your constant talk. It’s time to SHOW up and do the job you were elected to do. As Leader, you have a responsibility to the American people. Cancel the recess. Nobody goes home until the job is done. Nobody gets paid until it’s done. Terminate the filibuster and get the SAVE America act passed, TSA funded and all of the America First agenda passed. Who’s in your pocket? Voter ID is common sense, and the majority of Americans support it. This afternoon, Democrats will have the chance to show the American people which side they are on.

Our patriotic, hardworking TSA agents NEVER deserved to be treated like this, and their families have suffered far too much — food banks, eviction notices, missed payments. NO senator should be receiving or taking a paycheck and it’s a very BAD look when you have elected congressmen/senators being escorted through security at the airport while others are waiting 4 hours.
