“Although our community has waited far too long to see this, we are pleased to see that the city has finally decided to tackle this serious issue and will be discussing a policy framework regarding the city’s response to demonstrations at next Tuesday’s council meeting.” - CIJA VP @MStock2024 Today, Toronto City Council will consider measures to protect our community from rising hate. This includes serious steps we have long been calling for, including a bylaw to protect institutions from protests, more resources for police, and other policies to keep our city safe. A new independent poll has confirmed what we at CIJA have been saying all along about the anti-Israel protests on Canadian university campuses: the majority of Canadians believe protesters have engaged in racist, discriminatory, and violent demonstrations that have damaged property and threatened school safety. As such, they oppose these protests, which are promoted by a marginal element. Universities must take note. Canadians do not support them kowtowing to these tactics, and university administrations must show clear resolve in enforcing campus rules and regulations. With the next semester approaching, universities need a clear, publicized plan to ensure the public can be confident that these toxic protests will be dealt with appropriately. Today, @KamalKheraLib, Minister of Diversity, Inclusion and Persons with Disabilities, unveiled Canada’s new Anti-Racism Strategy: Changing Systems, Transforming Lives: Canada's Anti-Racism Strategy 2024–2028. *Of particular relevance for the Canadian Jewish community, the strategy includes the gold standard IHRA working definition of antisemitism which was officially adopted by the government in 2019.* It also includes: • $70 million in grant funding to communities to launch events and projects or build capacity in organizations, including those that support Jewish communities. • Recognition of the rise of antisemitism in Canada post-Oct 7th. • Support for promoting and preserving the voices and security of Jewish communities in Canada. • Upholding criminal charges towards the willful promotion of antisemitism by condoning, denying, or downplaying the Holocaust as a criminal offence in Canada. ‼️🚨 When people show you who they are, believe them. We are deeply disturbed by this photo of a protestor at @uOttawa proudly wearing the Hamas logo on their back. Hamas is a listed terrorist organization in 🇨🇦 — one that targets Jews not just in 🇮🇱 but around the 🌎 

That anyone would parade around their support and promote this terror group is shocking and has no place on campus or in our society.  

The university has a duty to ensure such glorification of terror is met with more than condemnation. It needs sanctioning. Dismantle this encampment. Now.
