Congress targets programs that send benefits directly to veterans because there's less bureaucracy involved. When money goes through multiple agencies, contractors, or organizations, there are more opportunities for waste, mismanagement, and lack of accountability. Direct payments to veterans are much harder to divert or misuse.

Members of Congress need to understand that they need to be responsible stewards to American taxpayers.

Good news! @SecVetAffairs announced the launch of the VA Partial Claim Program — which is authorized by @RepVanOrden's VA Home Loan Reform Act which President Trump signed into law last year.
This new program will get veterans at risk of foreclosure the tools they need to stay in their homes. 👏

Simply put, the government tends to target programs where there isn't a middleman. Veterans' benefits go directly to the veteran. That's very different from programs like foreign aid, SSVF, or HUD-VASH, where funds often pass through multiple agencies, contractors, nonprofits, and other organizations before reaching the intended recipient. More layers can create more opportunities for waste, fraud, abuse, and reduced accountability.

Notice the pattern in Congress? They target veterans' disability pay...it goes straight to the vet, no middleman.
Foreign aid? And other programs cause bllions to flow through layers of govs, contractors, NGOs & orgs perfectly primed for waste, fraud & abuse, rarely reaching families. Direct help to vets is a problem for them.
Want offsets? Check Congress/Senate pay & pensions: $174k salary + pensions up to $100k+/yr (Pelosi ~$108k). Many make more with 5 years in congress and then retiring than a 100% vet gets in one.

Trying to fund the #MajorRichardStarAct by raiding $57B from 1.5M veterans with sleep apnea and tinnitus is a gut punch to the community.
Can the DAV activate an immediate digital Action Alert so veterans can flood Congress against this budget-driven betrayal?
When the DAV rallied the veterans community in Feb 2026 against the VA’s medication final rule, it amassed over 19,000 comments in days, forcing the VA to back down so veterans wouldn’t be penalized for taking needed medication.
This infrastructure can stop this bill the exact same way.
Congress must waive PAYGO and pass Major Star's bill cleanly via the H.Res. 1247 discharge petition, which is just 5 signatures away.
We reject the premise that we must strip benefits from future generations to pay for promises already made to our combat retirees!

VETERAN ACTION SUPPORTS THE TAKE CARE OF AMERICA'S VETERANS ACT Veteran Action endorses the Take Care of America's Veterans Act, comprehensive legislation introduced by Senate Veterans' Affairs Committee Chairman Jerry Moran and House Veterans' Affairs Committee Chairman Mike Bost. The legislation saves veteran lives and protects the rights they have earned. "We wholeheartedly support the Take Care of America's Veterans Act," said @MarkLucasUSA, Founder & President of Veteran Action. "This bill includes our top legislative priority: the Veterans' ACCESS Act, which expands health care access and holds the VA accountable." The Take Care of America's Veterans Act builds upon President Trump's historic veteran legislative accomplishments of his first term: the VA Accountability and Whistleblower Protection Act of 2017 and the VA MISSION Act of 2018. The MISSION Act set up the policy and operational framework for veteran health care choice. The Take Care of America's Veterans Act mandates the full operational implementation of the MISSION Act. It betters the lives of the 9 million veterans who use the VA health care system, delivers real choice, and neutralizes the bureaucrats who have been denying veterans access to community care. The bill codifies access standards for VA health care: 20 days or a 30-minute drive time for primary and mental health care, and 28 days or a 60-minute drive time for specialty care. It requires the VA to notify veterans within five days of their eligibility for community care, preventing schedulers from canceling an appointment and restarting the clock on wait times. The bill also requires the VA to bring its systems into the 21st century, allowing veterans to make and track appointments, track referrals and medical claims, and appeal community care denials. A Veteran Action/Rasmussen Reports survey of 1,516 military likely voters shows veteran health care commands overwhelming bipartisan support. Ninety percent support giving veterans the choice to use VA health care benefits at providers outside the VA system. Seventy-five percent say they are more likely to support a congressional candidate who backs the Veterans' ACCESS Act — the centerpiece of this bill.
