Only one chance in this lifetime… Like watching sunset at the beach from the most foreign seat in the cosmos, I couldn’t resist a cell phone video of Earthset. You can hear the shutter on the Nikon as @Astro_Christina is hammering away on 3-shot brackets and capturing those exceptional Earthset photos through the 400mm lens. @AstroVicGlover was in window 3 watching with @Astro_Jeremy next to him. I could barely see the Moon through the docking hatch window but the iPhone was the perfect size to catch the view…this is uncropped, uncut with 8x zoom which is quite comparable to the view of the human eye. 【北米 FF14 界隈の炎上】 北米 FanFest を控え、FF14の北米英語圏コミュニティの一部では、ゲームの話が政治、価値観、排除の話と結びつき、一部のユーザーに対する殺害を示唆するような投稿まで出たり、さらには「ただゲームをしたい」という立場すら論争の対象になっていました。 記事の主張を要約すると「日常的な煽りや、差別的とも取れる排除的な言い回しが積み重なり、その延長でFanFestへの脅迫めいた発言まで出ている」という話です。 日本の感覚だと「なんでゲームの話でそこまで行くの？」と感じやすいと思います。 でも、この違和感こそが、北米英語圏と日本のコミュニティの差を考える入口なんだと思います。 【日本の感覚だと、まずこう見えやすい】 日本でゲームのコミュニティが荒れるときって、感覚的には 「界隈の空気が悪い」 「一部が過激」 「運営への不満がこじれた」 みたいな流れとして理解されやすいと思います。 特に、普段の煽りや嫌味と、リアルイベントへの脅迫みたいな話は、別のレベルのものとして見えやすい。後者は、あくまで一部の過激な人だけが起こしている問題だ、と受け取られやすい。 これは恐らく、日本では「対立」が「全体の空気を悪くするもの」として処理されやすく、そのぶん空気やマナーの話に変換されやすいからなんだと思います。 【北米英語圏では】 一方で、北米英語圏の一部では、ゲームの中の話がそのまま政治、宗教、差別、表現、価値観の対立に接続されやすいことがあります。 こちらから見ると「ゲームの話をしているだけ」に見えても、向こうでは「何を許すのか」「誰を排除するのか」という話として読まれやすい傾向がある。 つまり、対立が「立場や価値観の違い」として表に出やすい。だから「ただゲームをしたい」「中立でいたい」みたいな言い方すら、場合によっては何かの立場表明として受け取られてしまう。 ここに、日本の感覚からするとかなり分かりにくい文脈があります。 【日本では、別の形で現れる】 もちろん、日本にも、誰かを排除したり、空気で追い込んだりするような流れはあります。 ただ、それが北米英語圏ほど政治や価値観の対立として前面に出にくくて、ローカルルール、自治、晒し、マナー論争、運営叩き、あるいは「空気を読め」「お前が言うな」「嫌ならやめろ」みたいな形で出やすい。 つまり、こういう炎上や排除の流れ自体は、別に北米だけの特殊な話ではないという話ですが、何が論争として表に出やすいか、どう悪化しやすいかには、文化圏ごとの差がある、という話でもあります。 【この記事の広げ方には注意がいる】 その上で、この手の記事を、投稿主の書き方で見られるような「FF14全体が崩壊している」と読むのは少し雑です。 この記事から見えているのは、あくまで北米英語圏の一部、とくにXや配信者周辺の論争空間の話です。大多数の普通に遊んでいるプレイヤーまで全部そうだと見るのは違うでしょう。 ただ逆に「一部のユーザーが悪い」だけで片付けると、なぜそこまで空気が悪化するのかも見えにくい。 なので、全体化しすぎるのも、個人の問題だけに縮めすぎるのも、どちらも少しズレる… 個人的には、客観的なバランスが大事かなと思います。 【この話を知る意味】 Elemental DC みたいに、日本語以外の話者と接することが珍しくない環境だと、一般的な翻訳機能の進化もあって「言葉の壁」はかなり下がっています。 でも、言葉が読めることと、相手がどういう前提でその話をしているかが分かることは、わりと別です。 翻訳で文章は読めても、文脈までは自動で翻訳されない。 だから、こういう背景を知っておくことって、単なる海外事情の豆知識ではなくて、相手の反応や温度感を読み違えにくくするための実用的な知識でもあると思うんですよね。 【結論】 今回の話は「海外は怖い」で終わらせる話でも、「FF14全体が壊れている」と断じる話でもないと思っています。 同じFF14を見ていても、北米英語圏ではゲームの外にある価値観の対立まで流れ込みやすい。一方で日本では、対立や排除が、空気やマナー、ローカルルールの話として表に出やすい。 その違いを知っておくことは、向こうの炎上を過剰に一般化しないためにも、日本の界隈の空気を見誤らないためにも、たぶん意味があります。 今は、インターネットや翻訳技術の進化で、遠いはずの相手をこれまでになく身近に感じられる時代でもあります。 それはすごく面白いことでもあるし、一方で、言葉は通じても文脈を誤読したままぶつかってしまう危うさもある。 だからこそ、せっかくここまでつながれる時代になったなら、言葉だけじゃなく、その背景まで少しずつ理解しながら、この距離の近さを有意義に使っていけたらいいなと思います。 #FF14 #FFXIV
