A long🧵on EMG and NCS: After working with many patients with neurogenic symptoms, I have come across many EMG (electromyogram) and NCS (Nerve condition studies) reports. At first, I was very confused on the findings, what they meant to the me, the patient, and their condition...

@jeubanksMD TBF to everyone. The diagnosis of B CTS is quite prevalent. CTS is highly prevalent in our population. That said, the HOW to tx the patient with this dx is much more nuanced. IMO

PSA: Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS, or median mononeuropathy at the wrist) can absolutely present bilaterally. This is commonly seen in the EMG lab. We’re talking at least 15% of the time, with most epi data suggesting it’s much higher.

@cdavidoffDO @PhysioDOH Such a hot term now! It is very difficult to study. But I believe there has been some prospective data that shows those with cervical spondylosis are significantly more likely to develop CTS than those who don't. I will try and find the resource 👍

@tosinCanada @MaxVanDerVelden The literature around management of TOS is severely lacking. Conservative management and surgical management as well. I think TOS is like the "piriformis syndrome" of the UQ. It's real, rare, but some people don't think it exists.

Thoracic Outlet Syndrome TOS Awareness💥))💪🩸
@MaxVanDerVelden Great.. 🧵 #TOS 👉one of those conditions your not comfortable in treating 😉 I bet you’re comfortable with a patient’s history, listening to the description of symptoms and performing a gentle meticulous clinical diagnostic exam. Multidisciplinary team input ✔️ Thank you!

Thoracic outlet syndrome is, for me, one of those conditions around the shoulder/neck that I’m not really confident in treating. So I decided to have a closer look at the literature. Be aware, this is not a heavily researched area so much is based on low quality evidence. 🧵

@ClementsCharl96 I found it interesting for CDH that there was recommendations of full recovery taking 24-36 mo. But potentially others saying surgery after 6 mo...minimal clarification on why 6 mo besides "better outcome". There are too many factors for me at that point. IMO.

@adamdobson123 @MovemberUK @ProstateUK In the USA 3/4 of all suicides are males. Suicide is the highest reason for death in males ages 25-45. We have a problem. It's everywhere.

A few sobering facts about men in UK: 🔵 5219 suicides were registered in 2021. Male suicide is most common. Highest in NE. 🔵 Every 45 mins 1 man dies from Prostate Ca. >12,000 a year. To raise awareness I'll be donning my moustache and donating to @MovemberUK & @ProstateUK

@theEndurancePT I feel like this is great for many individuals recovering from injury or on their journey with chronic illness. Our mindsets need to change. We need to prepare our bodies daily, weekly, etc to rise to the challenges we wish to impart on them. 👍Great thread

Many years ago I was lucky enough to have an insight into the world of the special forces during my time as a military Physical Training Instructor. Pretty quickly I started to see how their approach to life could be so beneficial to endurance athletes. 1/5
