@johnbutinfosec n is dataset size. To have n unique entries, they must be at least ~log(n) digits each. Operation time is ~linear in number of digits.

My most controversial opinion is that hashing is actually O(log(n)), not O(1).

fellas, performance is great but there are very good reasons Task Manager does not use a D3D11 renderer and never should.

This is what I was previously told. A fiction that suited both parties - but the local authority more than the people living on boats without central heating.

If Dan had researched this further, he would have found out that a lot of councils generally do not bill or enforced council tax on boat dwellers because if they did, they would have to offer he same amenities and the costs would far outweigh the money coming in.

@AaronBastani I do not see why people should be able to avoid paying for social care, SEND, schooling, libraries, etc, purely because they live on a boat. We already have a system for means tested council tax exemptions.

And probably about to hit a ton of people who live on narrowboats, who enjoy no security of tenure, with council tax.

This is the part of pure C I never understood. Why isn't void** compatible with int**? void* is compatible with int*, sizeof(void*) == sizeof(int*). So the covariant compatibility of void* across several levels of indirection makes perfect sense to me. Am I missing anything?

sizeof(void*) == sizeof(int*) won't hold true for every compilation target there is.
and even if, the same representation/alignment is only guaranteed between char* and void*

@RadishHarmers It’s hard[er] to measure/tax wealth that is illiquid, which means a liquid wealth limits basically incentivises heavy consumption (bad, the actual source of inequality). Doesn’t mean it’s impossible but it is hard to coherently design the policy

It doesn't matter if you're a moral person. You still don't deserve to be a billionaire. No individual deserves so much more unilateral power than others, which is harmful to society, and nothing useful is lost in incentive difference between $10 million or so and billionaire.

I have a Luke warm take: indigenous people around the world were and have been able to ethically consume meat for centuries. It is possible to eat meat and not ruin the ecosystem

I own an estate agency in hertfordshire, about 14 percent of our landlords have or are selling due to the negative tax and legislative environment. Assuming thats replicated nationally there will be 1.7million less properties for renters in a year, with no plan on replacement
