@mindyisser We could create thousands of jobs very easily if we just require 10 drivers per train

i’m not opposed to automation on principle, but i genuinely want to know where people who say “automate the LIRR” think those people should work next.

@ArtemisConsort I am convinced. I was considering an idealised model (word-keys with O(1) memory), once i remove this assumption log(n) seems correct

@johnbutinfosec n is dataset size. To have n unique entries, they must be at least ~log(n) digits each. Operation time is ~linear in number of digits.

My most controversial opinion is that hashing is actually O(log(n)), not O(1).

@SheriefFYI windows has an entirely software driver for d3d. so it doesn’t actually preclude it running on GPU-less HW

@AaronBastani 60+% of council tax is used for social care costs + children services + central council services. Why doesn’t this apply to people on boats?

@AaronBastani I do not see why people should be able to avoid paying for social care, SEND, schooling, libraries, etc, purely because they live on a boat. We already have a system for means tested council tax exemptions.

@tsoding void** implies you can write a void* to the dest. this is not true of an int**, else you could do *(void**)&intptr = &short. A void* const* is covariant with int* const*; but this also isn’t implicitly allowed lol

This is the part of pure C I never understood. Why isn't void** compatible with int**? void* is compatible with int*, sizeof(void*) == sizeof(int*). So the covariant compatibility of void* across several levels of indirection makes perfect sense to me. Am I missing anything?

@g37800163 @tsoding This is untrue. It is guaranteed a non function pointer will have same size and alignment as void*

@tsoding sizeof(T*) is implementation defined which means sizeof(void*) == sizeof(int*) won't hold true for every compilation target there is. and even if, the same representation/alignment is only guaranteed between char* and void*

@RadishHarmers It’s hard[er] to measure/tax wealth that is illiquid, which means a liquid wealth limits basically incentivises heavy consumption (bad, the actual source of inequality). Doesn’t mean it’s impossible but it is hard to coherently design the policy

@adelkazz @RectalAnarchy69 your honour, I may have murdered him, sure, but everything dies and if something is of use I don’t see a problem in killing it.

@RectalAnarchy69 not necessarily, everything dies and if something is of use i don't see a problem in killing it. killing it isn't the problem, it's the disgusting conditions of the meat industry, the way it ruins our environment, and how it fuels capitalism & participates in it.

@leftinista all votes for my party are Good and Proper. all votes for other parties are because either the voters are stupid or they’ve been tricked into voting for the evil Bad Party. there is absolutely no chance someone willingly chose to vote for the Bad Party

@cutesy_kuromiii @ahmiraaa If we scaled up indigenous farming practices to feed even a tiny proportion of the world, it would destroy FAR more of the environment than modern factory farming does. It’s not magically more efficient, it’s just because there are very few indigenous people

@ahmiraaa Obviously, the way meat is consumed by the majority of the world is harmful for the environment and the ecosystem. The point is that there is a way to ethically consume meat where he doesn’t ruin the environment and the ecosystem that’s the point that I’m making

@SSAbesM Your "Free Palestine" activism ends when you start judging arabs for not doing your way. There, they slaughter animals the halal way where they ensure the animal is healthy and living under nice conditions before killing it in a quick and painless way. So fym "animal abuse".

It’s so disgusting how when a working class person expresses hatred for the system that is oppressing them, anger at those who are upholding it, and desire for change, middle class liberals will dismiss them as unserious for believing that that is possible.
