NEW: U.S. Coast Guard rescues a snowmobiler who was stranded on the ice in white-out conditions a mile from land in Lake Huron. The Mackinac Island Fire Department says if the Cutter Mackinaw crew had not already been in the area, the man would not have made it. "It was extremely slow going as drifting snow was waist-deep and the ice jagged and difficult to climb over," the fire chief said in a statement. "Extreme coordination between shore-based firefighters, Central Dispatch, and County Emergency Manager Bryce Tracy was able to track firefighters as they disappeared into the whiteout." The victim tried reaching the fire crews but eventually ran into open water. The USCG Cutter Mackinaw crew eventually spotted the man and brought him on board. He was rushed to the hospital and is now in stable condition.
