The Democrats’ BUILD Act will allow developers to bring apartments to single family neighborhoods. They would be allowed to do this by right … ie no public hearing. Local authority will be tossed aside and suburban mayors are furious. What say you? Are you ok waking up tomorrow to find an apartment next door? See example below.

Mayor goes on to say that all of the city's sister agencies (that includes parks, libraries, and schools) "have to work together to ensure the plan that is carried out on May 1, that parents have advanced notice, city of Chicago has notice..."
Paris Schutz@paschutz

"May 1st is happening," mayor Johnson says in response to question on whether he agrees with CPS CEO Macquline King who has said school will be in session. She went against the appointed school board members that voted for a day off for civic action. He seemed to indicate schools would indeed be out, but was unclear.

@asymmetricinfo I feel like having kids (if you do) invariably solves this because you end up making friends with daycare/school parents.

It's a real problem if you move to one of these cities. I've had friends who moved to great cities like Philadelphia and left because it was too hard to find folks who were looking for new friends.
vibe adjusted ebidta 🇺🇸🇦🇲@s0ymalia

The real challenge with B cities isn’t the lack of the MoMA, it’s the fact that unless you’re from there, or you move right after college, everyone’s social circle is basically set to people they grew up with or worked with at 22.

Aragorn was 87 years old when he started dating Arwen, who was 2778 years old. There is an age difference of 2691 years between them (more than 269 decades). They weren’t even born in the same millennium (Aragorn was born in the year 2931 of the Third Age, and Arwen in the year 241 of the Third Age). Hollywood normalizes this.

@chilandlord @AldermanLaSpata Read the article! It says “almost 500.” So, yes, a tiny slice of the ward, and probably the kind of thing where people who don’t like it are naturally more inclined to respond. If your opinion is “ehh, it’s fine,” but you don’t care much, you probably don’t bother.

@chicagobars Right - easy to deal with that in an app, but no real way at all drive-thru. Companies used to think they could skate liability if they don’t identify, but all that matters is you *could* with the biometrics. Now, my sense is people are getting a lot better at BIPA compliance.

@johnrooksjr That is what I wondered, I assume McDonald's has (seemingly) lost interest because they can get the same data in their app with clear (presumably) BIPA/privacy waivers when people sign up.

Some of those fast food menu boards are sold with cameras and software that can recognize the customers demographics niche and customize display offerings. I’ve long wondered if any lawyer ever challenged that under one of our state’s digital privacy laws. 🤷‍♂️

@iowahawkblog If you go, I really recommend Sa Pesta. Get the pesto trofiette. Hole in the wall place that locals love. Your wine choices are “red” or “white” in a carafe.

Buongiorno, car mystery fans! In honor of the Winter Olympics, today's Dave's Car ID Service salutes the wonderfully schizophrenic Italian car industry. Only the Italians are capable of producing both the pinnacle of automotive masterpieces, while simultaneously the most hilariously weird and unreliable sh*tboxes. That in itself is a mystery; on one hand you have Ferrari, Maserati, Lamborghini, Ghia, names to be spoken in hush reverence like Michelango, Leonardo, Donatello, and Raphael while gazing at the ceiling of the automotive Sistine Chapel. Case in point, a 1968 Lamborhini Miura (1). For my money, the Mona Lisa of automobiles; mysterious, aloof, alluring, a beckoning sly smile. On the other hand you have... Fix It Again, Tony! The incomprehensible item in #2 is the (cue circus music) 1972 Fiat ESV 1500 safety prototype. Those enormous wraparound rubber baby buggy bumpers were somewhat redundant as the car would've been in a repair shop most of its life. In all honesty both cars were high maintenance, but at least the Lambo had the looks to justify the owner's constant repair bills and heartache.
