☢️ Every russian drone that crashes onto a Ukrainian city now potentially carries radioactive contamination. Ukraine just documented it. Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) has documented evidence that Russia is deploying depleted uranium warheads on its strike drones — a finding with significant implications for the conduct and characterisation of Russia’s war. On the night of April 7, Ukrainian air defence shot down a modified Russian “Geran-2” strike drone over Chernihiv Oblast. The drone was equipped with an R-60 “air-to-air” missile — a configuration Russia has been adapting onto its Iranian-designed Shahed/Geran platforms. When SBU radiation reconnaissance teams examined the wreckage, they recorded gamma radiation levels of 12 μSv/h near the debris — significantly exceeding background norms and presenting a direct health risk to anyone in proximity. Forensic examination confirmed the composition: The missile’s warhead contained damaging elements made of depleted uranium — specifically Uranium-235 and Uranium-238. The radioactive material has been removed to a secure radioactive waste facility. The SBU has opened criminal proceedings under Ukrainian war crimes legislation. Why this matters Depleted uranium has legitimate military uses — primarily as armour-piercing kinetic penetrators against tanks, where its density makes it effective. Its deployment in air-launched strike munitions aimed at populated Ukrainian territory is a fundamentally different category of use, and one that raises serious questions under international humanitarian law. Russia has spent years denying the use of any radioactive materials in its operations against Ukraine — while simultaneously accusing Ukraine of preparing “dirty bombs” in propaganda campaigns aimed at Western audiences. This documented evidence reverses the accusation. It is Russia — not Ukraine — that is now demonstrably contaminating Ukrainian territory with radioactive material delivered by weapons designed to terrorise civilian areas. Every Geran-2 strike drone that crashes into a Ukrainian city now potentially carries radiological contamination. Emergency services, civilians, and rescue workers responding to crash sites face exposure risks they did not previously have to consider. Footage of a Muslim officer being abused at a protest was widely shared this weekend.   It happened a few weeks ago and we won’t be resharing the video, but yesterday we saw more of the same.   Nobody should have to put up with abuse at work and that includes police officers. 
Arrests were made in all these incidents and we'll be pushing for charges in every case.
